In Googling for the information on a local charity event for a relative living in the US, I get this

451: Unavailable due to legal reasons

We recognize you are attempting to access this website from a country belonging to the European Economic Area (EEA) including the EU which enforces the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and therefore access cannot be granted at this time. For any issues, contact nvrweakly@aol.com or call 636-931-7560.

Why would local news be restricted in this way ?

I have been blocked on a few USA sites during my family tree research and had to use a VPN to access. I think it is in response to recent EU privacy regulations which these sites would rather block access than comply with.

Yeah its to do with the GDRP regulations - many yank sites have decided its easier just to block all European access rather than comply with GDRP.

This is really bad thinking, not about Brexit itself but about privacy on the internet. If you think about it, big 'internet giants' are making big money with user's private data, and careless users will make it even worse.

May not be the best data protection regulations but it's better than nothing (=USA!).

The 'careless users' are among us, ever since social media provided (and continues to provide) the nirvana of perceived 'acceptance', just so long as they perform for far less than peanuts.

Human see, human do.

GDPR will be brought into UK only law anyway in April just like other EU laws and protections.

Who knows how long it and other things from the EU lasts.

It was brought in a few months ago, I had to deal with the impact on the company, which was to embrace the feature unless it imposed a threat to the profitability of the company or those that submitted the data, in which case it was OK to keep records (purely for archiving, in the event it might get lost.......)

Make of that what you will.

No I meant it will be included in UK law still after Brexit just the law copied over. Leaving the EU doesn't mean it won't still be enforce for the UK.

Understood, but I would like to believe the US might allow access to some non sensitive searches once those with the balls to accept a - democratically elected - new direction, move away from the ones that wish unicorn time machinery on everyone for their own personal gains, despite being unable to predict questions of choice on a much diluted tv programme.

Matthew Norman: Bottom of the class, Mr Lammy

I leave members to search out the video of the former 'higher' education minister, but welcome anyone that can provide the appearance of David Blunkett from the same show under similar circumstances.

In fairness, in my work we’ve found the GDPR regulations to be quite useful for keeping data we hold up to date and relevant.

Even colleagues on the leave side of a certain political event that’s currently going on in the country seem to think so too.

A lot of American websites clearly have thought it worth their effort to comply with legislation as it only seems to be things like those local news sites which are blocked for the EEA now.

if it's mainstream media then it is questionable at best - more likely biased or fake
