Hi,
I am trying starting tomorrow to get Nilesat in Ghana. My system: a 4.2 solid dish +0.3dB quad Invacom+Strong SRT 4620 digital receiver. With my system, i can already receive fringe signals such as Arabsat2D or Hotbird.
Can somebody give me some tips as to how to go about this sucessfully (i.e. the strongest frequences, how to position the LNBF, etc...)and anything that can help.
Thankx in advance.

SatcoDx says you should be able to get Nilesat easily even with a 1.2m at ku-band in West Africa.

11747Mhz 27500ksps Vertical 3/4 always seems to be one of the strongest transponders and carries the Education Channels.

I havent had chance to try yet from Lagos so I cant confirm for sure. Let us know how you get on.

Hi Ouagadougou,
Thankx for your msg. I started searching the Nilesate yesterday but haven't got any signal yet. Tests were carried out from 7pm GMT.
I will let you know further developments.

LNB Skew for you should be virtually zero for 7w so if you have an H-H or Polar Mount then I would just set the LNB to 0 degrees Skew until you get something. If you have the type of mounts mentioned and you have set your LNB Skew for fringe signals like Hotbird then I guess you are pretty much peaked already. I just had a look at the footprint again and we arent that far off the 47dBW EIRP line so it shouldnt be that hard to find it.

I wish I had room for a 4.2m solid dish here !! Cheers.

Hi,
What make is the 4.2m solid dish?
Is it possible to self-build a large KU-band solid dish?

Hi all,
Thankx for your msgs. I persued searching Nilesat signals (11747/H/27500) with skew @ 0 but couldn't get any signal. However i was able to get Hispasat @30W. Only few frequences came:12226 V 27500, 12303 V 27500 and 12380 V which was the strongest signal. Tests were carried out from 7pm GMT.
Is there any analog signal on the Nilesat i can use for my searching, sometimes it's easier! Also, I heard from a friend in Nigeria that they use to get Nilesat in NIgeria but signal use to drop during the day. Has somebody noticed anything like that. Here, I am experienceing a similar phenomenon with Arabsat2D but signals use to drop in the night and only vertical frequences are concerned. What could be the problem? How to deal with it?

Regards.

Hi,
I built my 4.2m and it's a solid prime focus dish made of aluminium sheets (reflectors) and iron (rims, mounts and other parts). I would post the pictures later during the week end.
I also have self built 2.4 offset dishes made of fiberglass. They were copied from an original channel master and i use them for Arabsat Ku and Hotbird.Signal is ok but as i say, the vertical signals use to drop during the night. On hotbird i get only few frequences.
If testing are positive for Nilesat, i planned to built a mould from a 3.5m offset Prodelin and start building fiberglass made offset dishes for Nilesat viewing.

Hi,

it should be 11747 Vertical not Horizontal. In Europe we see the Vertical Transponders quite easily but the Horizontal can be very weak so you may have to experiment a little as I dont know if its the same for West Africa. There are no analogue channels left according to _www.lyngsat.com which lists all known channels for all sats.

Cheers.

Aldac12,

How do you build your dishes? To me it's magic:).
How do you shape those aluminium sheets? How do you know the shape is right and so on?

Hi Divibi,
To built my dishes I use 2 technics: the easiest way is the fiberglass made dishes mould from an original offset dish. The ones I prefer are Andrews or Prodelin. From the original dish, i prepare a mould using polyester and fiberglass+cobalt etc...if you don't have a little knowledge about moulding with fiberglass, I would recommend you seek help from an expert. The dosage and mixing of the chemicals are very important. The final product is an authentic copy of the original.
The other way is to built it using iron and aluminium sheets. It's very difficult particularly the big sized dishes. You have to calculate the curverture, the focal point depending on the depth of the dish and its diameter. But again, if you are a newbie in dish building, i would recommend you get assistance from somebody who's done it already, unless you don't mind spending 6 weeks and tons of money building a dish and getting no signal at the end!

From Madeira Island I get all the channels from Nilesat, from my experience the channels with better reception are based on the Egypt 102 Beam, makes no difference Vertical or Horizontal. One example would be 11919 H, on that frequency I get up to 47% quality and on 11938 V 35% these are both on Beam 102. On Egypt 101 Beam I get about 28% quality, so I would recommend you to hunt for Beam 102 horizontal frequencies. I bet you would get a better reception than I do with that monster.
I have a 1.2m prime focus, 0,7db universal lnb and currently using a Skystar 2.

I live in northern part of Tanzania.
Is it possible that I get Eutelsat W2 at 16E and Nilesat as well?

I have 4 X 1.8 m dishes and I use to get C or Ku bands such as Atlantic Bird 3; NSS7; Thaicom 2/3; Pas4/7/10 and Intelsat 906 as I do not get Hotbird or Astra. Maybe it is possible, who knows?

What is LNB Skew? When do you must configure it?

Asante sana (Thank you very much)

The Nilesats as far as i remember are hard to catch further north in Addis Abeba (Ethiopia). There 3m were recommended if i am not wrong. So very hard to tell if signal reaches at all Tanzania.
