That's a very expensive exercise, I wonder how that'll affect the overseas Freesat cards if it happens?

If the do change the card it may point to a bigger problem.... :)

The fact that card sharing can be done, only with specialist receivers, would not justify a costly complete card update IMO.

Unless a very, very large number are sharing - can't see that!

If you check the churn on S*y it's down - that may be due to discounts more than anything. The subscribers number continue to rise.

Only S*y know the real answer... :-away

only reason for card issue is if there has been a breach in the encryption

Yes, I agree with Gameboy. Gotta be a better reason for a swap than that.

I'm not even convinced that a card-swap alone would stop sharing. Only Sky/NDS would know THAT too! They obviously have every Dreambox ever made in a 'secret lab' somewhere!!!

:D

It would probably need an encryption change as well. Maybe that's implied in the 'swap' you talk of :confused - would make sense I suppose in a single-card market.

I can't see it myself (April is only two months away, and no other rumours yet...), but then the existing cards have done a good turn already, so maybe this year sometime?

I won't be replacing my three-channel FTV card. O-noO-noO-no

What's the problem - I've not had S*y for years and I don't miss much :-rofl2

P.S. Except for the share and they've halved in price - since I bought them :-doh! - despite the success of the company - more reason to dislike them....

As far as I remember, they've only changed the cards once with Videoguard and that was shortly after the news came out that the cards could be partially read using a CAM emulator with a PC card. I would guess that they would require at least a six month period to roll out a new card issue.

IMO $ky are not all that converned about what is relatively a handful of dreambox users (including cs), its nothing compared to the millions of subscribers they have. they will only do a cardswap if they fear that the encryption is in danger. I would also anyway guess that even in event of a cardswap, that it would not take so long before it works once again on DB

I'd have thought that cable peeps watching sky would be more of a problem.... bit like the old on dodgy, where it was preferable to have a minimum subscription, but got the full mashings.... or is cable all tied up now (excuse the pun : )

Don't want to talk about C A B L E here, but in that case Sky are gettin' paid to supply the content regardless, so what do they care?

Don't they get paid a percentage for each kabel subscriber?

I know at least one person who was willing to sub to Sky but had been messed around a lot with installation. In the end he gave up and got himself a not completely on the level kabel setup.

Now Sky don't get a penny from him (unless BARB factor in such viewers in their figures!)

So, IMHO, I think Sky do care.
