Hi,
I've searched countless posts online about this but found no solution. I am on the verge of calling someone in to sort it but could do without the expense at this time.Basicaly I had a working freesat sky digibox (old thomson style) in the lounge, long story short the tv broke and when I got the new one I couldn't connect it up as it required a scart connection. Then I bought a freesat hd box which used hdmi port and installed that in the lounge to the existing satellite cable, now working as intended.

I had a magic eye upstairs in the bedroom linked to the downstairs sky box which utilized the rf out socket (new box doesn't have one ...sigh).I thought that moving the old sky box upstairs would work if i just connected it to the cable coming in from the dish which was used to power the magic eye. This had a regular co ax plug on it so I put on an f connector and plugged it in as it was downstairs before. Now All i get is a no signal is being received message 29.

After looking outside i see four cables coming from my dish, one to each bedroom and one to the lounge.Any ideas guys ? I'm stumped here.

Hello, welcome to the forum,
It would appear from your comment that you have a quad lnb, which are fed to four separate rooms so you should be able to isolate that satellite cable (not the RF cable) in the bedroom and fit to the Thomson stb, and scan for channels, it seems you have utilised the RF cable that comes from the lounge, and I am not really sure why?

From your comment, if the cable had a magic eye connected to it, then it doesn't come from the dish, but from the lounge. You need to make sure the cable you are connected to is connected to the dish.

Maybe I messed up the Rf connector , tried a few tones with no luck and looked at a few videos on how to do it

I was wondering the same thing myself , however this cable comes directly from the dish

Also I will further add, there are two cables coming into the house in the lounge , they both go into a grey splitter box , one of the cables coming off it is a sat cable , the other was for the rf out 2 which was linked to the magic eye upstairs

Yes but you need to find the satellite cable that is coming direct from the LNB to the bedroom and put the F connector on that and connect to the receiver and scan

Tried a few tones? you should not be using the RF connector at all.

I’ll have another check tomorrow when it’s light . I’m sure the wires were all coming from the dish . Maybe they just set it up so I could have magic eye for each bedroom , not sure . Guessing that’s a different kind of cable entirely ? Any suggestions on what to do moving forward ?

Sorry it was a typo , was on my phone typing. Tried a few times , and it’s an f connector the type that’s goes in the satellite socket on the back of the Thomson box

Are you sure you do not have a strand of braiding shorting out the F connector?

I’m going to try in one of the other bed rooms and see if it makes a difference .Could be the f connector but I pulled all the braiding out of the way of the copper core .

Ok got some more info, it looks like the cables going to the bedrooms are fed from the splitter in the lounge that the dish cable goes into, looks like they are just feeding from the lounge . Would this still work or do I need more cables coming directly from the dish?

How many cables come into the lounge from the dish? If it's two, then you can join the unused one to the one which goes up to the bedroom with the Freesat receiver. you just need a female to female F connector to join the two together. If there is only one cable into the lounge from the dish, then you will need to reroute the bedroom cable up to the dish.

I added a photo in one of my earlier replies , there is a brown aerial cable coming in on the right hand side of the picture as well as the other cables coming in. It looks like just the one is coming directly from the dish, the others seem to be for the old magic eye .

Somewhere in England (possibly?)!
A very good 8-way sat cable tracer can be found if you search Amazon for one of these SAC test kits: "8 Way Cable Mapper, 8 Coax Cable Tester Tracer" - "borrowed" one of those a year to trace where all the cables down to my sat dishes at the end of the garden actually terminate,

It worked very well, and then I returned it as "not suitable for the purpose" (and so not of actually paying for something not needed in the longterm!) - but I did put a new battery in it before I did that:D
OTOH, one might need some F-connector to tv coax plug adapters for the internal cables- very easy/cheap items! :D

Have a look at the dish and see if there is more than one output on the LNB, if not, it needs replacing for one which does.. Then you need to pull the cable (the one that goes to the bedroom) out of the lounge wall from outside, and reroute it to the dish and connect it using an F type connector.

Thanks for all the help guys , I think you’ve answered my question . I need to run another cable from my dish into the bedroom by the look of things . Not something I fancy taking on myself as I don’t have ladders etc .Thanks for all the help , you actually helped me find the answer.

From your comment, if the cable had a magic eye connected to it, then it doesn't come from the dish, but from the lounge. You need to make sure the cable you are connected to is connected to the dish.

As a slight deviation (is there any other ?) Inverto make/made a quad LNB that also has a terrestrial antenna feed built into it, which on a correctly designed system saves running additional cables from the roof, the only diplexer required is the wall plate.

If this is what is on the dish then a magic eye will be connected directly to the dish feed(s) to drive the Sky box.
