Hi All,

I have to change the CAM in my old Nokia Meidamaster and was wondering if a diablo 2.3 would be compatible - everyone says that is one of the best cams to use.

Can anyone advise me on this?

Thanks

Hi Jack...
I can't tell you for certain if the cam is totally compatible ..
What I can tell you is ..
I've just inserted my Diablo v2.3 (Horizons 1.04 firmware loaded)...into my Nokia 9600s (dvb2000 firmware loaded) ...and it does 'see' the cam ...and does initialise Horizons 1.04 ..
I would therefore 'assume' it is compatible...but can't vouch for card/cam compatibility as I've nothing to test it with atm.

Thanks for the tip - i'll make sure with the vendor before I buy the CAM that it has Horizon 1.04 on it. As for the firmware my Nokia Mediamaster is using I haven't a clue or know how to change it but I guess that is something I can look into.

Thanks!

Hi again Jack ..
Not sure just what you are intending to watch on your nokia/diablo combination ...but Horizons 1.04 is just card reading firmware ..
wheras Underworld is firmware containing emulators ..
Not that there is much to emulate these days ..
Also ..what firmware is on your old Nokia .. ?
Changing firmware isn't easy on this 'old timer' as it requires a bdm (binary debug module) ...and transbox software to accomplish the flash.
..a special lead needs to be made up to connect inside the box ..and a jumper needs to be moved ..
Plus ..you will need firmware of course ...and possibly a change of bootloader
Difficult to get ..and certainly nothing produced for many years ..
The box is now considered too old to be worthwhile..

..Hmm ..
I'm a little worried that you might be wasting your money buying a Diablo ...unless you know specifically _what_ you want it for ..
Buying a cam just for the sake of it is a bit hasty...particularly as Diablo v2.3 has had its day..more or less.

Thanks again for the quick reply!

I was hoping to use the CAM to read the TIVU card I purchased with another decoder (i prefer the nokia meidamster though as the other decoder keeps freezing and such). I was told diablo was the most compatible with the TIVU card which is why I was looking at purchasing it.

..No probs m8 ..
Since it is a genuine card you are trying to read then ..your best bet is to get Horizons -pre loaded ..
In order to make changes to the diablo cam yourself ..
..you would have to purchase a CAS programmer (Cas3 is the most recent )

As to firmware ..
I'd stick with what you have in the Nokia already..as changing it is difficult on this box.
Incidentally ..the firmware and bootloader in your box ..can be observed for a few seconds in the box display window during the inital boot up time.

Brilliant - I will ask the person I am getting it from to put Horizons 1.04on it then.

I think I will leave the nokia firmware as it is (currently it is CI 2.6) as it sounds too complicated to change it! Hopefully the CAM will work with that.

Thank you so much for all your help and suggestions.

My advice is to stay away completely from any Diablo cam for use with a Nokia 9600.

If all you want is to use a TIVU card get a specific cam that suits the TIVU.

Burnham Beech .._does _ make a valid point in that none of us can say for sure if this cam/card/set top box combination ..will definately work.
As has been emphasised already ...it is an old ..though well thought of st top box..but compatibility isn't assured.
It might indeed be more prudent to aquire a cam which is designed to work specifically with your TIVU subbed card...but in the end ..the coice must be yours..
Rgds ..and hope you have success.
