Pace Prima Analogue
I was referred by another forum to this one to find out about getting a non-Sky digital satellite receiver to be able to get Eurosport in English after "patching". This is all very new to me, could anyone point me in the right direction?

Welcome...

Where are you located?

If it's the UK, then Eurosport have joined Top Up TV (TUTV) on freeview through your TV aerial.

You could buy a receiver and patch it but there is no guarantee how long this will last.

P.S. On Freeview the station, available on channel 49, will broadcast between 2pm and 11pm daily

Ah - another DS refugee joins our merry band. Welcome ! :D

There are assorted Eurosport transmissions in digital, although not all of them carry all the languages.

First a question - have you got your Pace Prima connected & working yet on the 19E analogue transmission? That should be your first priority as you are desperate for this service.

No I have not got it connected yet, I'm awaiting the release of the Inverto, then I can ditch my Sky+ box - anyone want it, one careful owner? - and then I'll use the minidish and cabling for the analogue setup...although talk of the Topfield having the capability of allowing TUTV makes it seems tempting also...by the way, should I get a satellite finder gauge thingy to move the dish from 28.2 to 19.2E?

I'm not an expert in reorientating dishes but most of the satellite finders are more trouble than they are worth. Capturing analogue signals is quite easy as they show almost immediately (on the TV) whilst with digital signals you have to wait for the receiver to respond to the signal.

I have to disagree there, whilst not essential, even cheap finders can speed up the process considerably and can be very good for fine tuning.

Whilst I realise I have to move the satellite dish thru 9 degrees from 28.2E to 19.2E, do I have to adjust the dish in the vertical plane at all...I live in SE London?

yes 31 degress for the elevation.

If you behind the dish you would be moving it towards the right to astra1.

Sorry, is it that for Astra 1, 31 degrees of elevation is required? If so what is the current elevation for my Sky digital Astra 2E dish setting?

For SE London, Astra2 would be approximately 25 degrees and Astra1 would be 28, there will be about three degrees difference, with Astra1 being the higher of the two.

Mark the present position of the dish on the pole and the angle on the dish bracket.

I don't think you will have to change the dish angle by much.

Try just slackening the pole bolts and moving it to the right with the receiver tuned into a FTA channel on Astra 19.2'E.

You should get a signal. Pause a few seconds after each movement as the digital signal takes a second or two to clear.

Once you have a signal tighten the pole bolts.

You could then try the same with the dish angle bolts to see if the signal gets stronger.

If you have no luck you have the markings to get back Astra 28.2'E without problems.
