I bottled out and renewed my Norton subscription last week.
It came preloaded, I had used it before and was quite happy
in principle.

In practice I winced at paying 21% Irish VAT.
Has anyone tried with, say, a USA address from UK and got it
cheaper?

Wouldn't touch Norton with a barge pole - too much of a chequered (or is that checkered) past

Try a Googly = Norton av problems O-no

Interesting question, but I get a fresh copy of the latest Norton release every year, so I don't know. IMO it's the best AV program available, especially when backed by the rest of the NSW package. I also run other AV stuff alongside it, 'cos I'm paranoid!

LOL, don't balme you Cor, must pose quite a large overhead on the processor though.

You don't need to buy expensive virus checkers for your home PC!

There are several good free ones. For example, have a look at Grisoft AVG http://www.grisoft.com. It's free for home use and works really well - I've been running it for years without any problems.

At my company, we stopped renewing our Norton subscription a couple of years ago, but it still automatically downloads the updates. I don't particularly like NAV so I'm just about to migrate all our systems to F-PROT which seems to be a decent product and is much cheaper than Norton.

We also have a Linux mail relay with Vexira and Spamassassin. When our Vexira licence runs out I'll replace it with ClamAV for a completely open-source solution.

Brilliant. Even more than me!!! LOL.

Hope you're not mixing Windows firewall and ZAP on the same box, as compatability problems could leave a hole (according to MS).

@Simba - F-PROT is an excellent product, as is Panda. Both cheaper than Norton, but still more than I paid ;)
