UK mobile operator O2 has unveiled its new ‘Xmail’ service, which offers subscribers the ability to remotely access their e-mail, calendar and contacts lists from an xda handset.

An xda is a handset blend of PDAs and colour-screen mobile phones, and its accompanying service is targeted at enterprise customers and commuters.

The software that enables subscribers to synchronise their xdas with a PC is downloadable from the O2 website.

O2 says that trial participants found the service useful and a number of the 50,000 xda users would like the operator to expand e-mail connectivity services.

Subscribers can access a free ten-day trial. The cost of the service after the free trial is E14.27 (£9.99), excluding airtime and data costs.
