I dont think it will work well. Better to ask the experts advice. I hope some one will help you.

You need at least an 800Mhz machine to watch anything encrypted with the Skystar2.

Yes, tried it on a 700Mhz and it wouldn't perform on encrypted channels, works well on a 1Ghz with half a Gig of RAM though.

Yes - its the physical speed of the processor and the likely lack of RAM that will make the computer struggle. It must be 5 or 6 years old - we are running numerous equally ancient computers on our work network

Last question if a use Linux OS the outcome be the same?

Yep
Ram is ram and Mhz is mhz ,no way to get around that. However a Nexus-S DVB card just might do the job as it has its own decoder on board. I use one and it uses hardly any computer. Get a Nexus-S if you can and if you do have any probs it wouldnt take much more computer if any.and you would have the best setup for DVB card available presently.Anyway mine has run several years every day 16 hours a day! and its never missed a lick.:)
oohh yes,The Nexus-S also has its own video output so your video card is fine for that running in hardware mode,I have never found any reason to run in soft mode. You will love your Nexus-S if you do get one.
Can you get some bigger ramsticks? if so Im sure it would work, might load slow at first but after loaded you wouldnt know its running.
