Makes me think about the Satellite TV mags I have knocking around, wondering if I should scan those and post on here now that there are no legal concerns since they went belly up

Excellent site!

Wireless World too. February 1945 has Arthur C Clarke's ideas for geostationary satellites.

Nostalgia - Must see if they have the early 1960's edition for the stereo FM radio I made from a design in there. Didn't use 10.7 MHz IF transformers - I remember winding ferrite rings to I think 100KHz instead.

My memory failed me. Wasn't a stereo radio but an FM Tuner. 130 kHz IF (or kc/s those days)

Had three switched crystals that gave me BBC's Home, Light and Third stations - Radio 4, 2 and 3 now :)

Unfortunately the available crystals were for tuning to the Wrotham transmitter, so I needed a good outside aerial where I was (60 miles away).

A bit basic- looking to say the least, but not needing alignment was a bonus.

My first foray into Amateur Radio was building a PW "Direct Conversion SSB Valve Rx for 80m" and a Valve PSU, when I was 13.

Great bit of kit - dead simple, robust and quite stable, all things considered. The thing had quite a large and bright red "On" light, so it was hard to conceal my late-night SWLing from mater and pater - bedroom door had a pane of glass above it!

Later, as Marconi apprentices, we became sniffy about PW and swore by the rather high-brow Elektor magazine.

A little less analogue, and a lot more crap.

I made a couple of short wave receivers using plug-in Denco coils. I still have one in the shed.

It was a valve - type - socket but everything under the case was semiconductor.

Two/three windings differentiated the application for valve/transistor.

I'll have a look tomorrow, see if one or both are still there.

And one of them remain in the shed, can't find the damn coils though.

Pictures later, once I've moved the spider nests to a new home.
