I am unsure where they get the shipping prices from, I would probably get a big dish shipped for less.

Wow.....I can understand the damage/insurance side worry but for a package that size........thats some cost!!

Hope you can sort Martin. I am now on the hunt for a polar mount + accessories for my own 1.8 PF.

Well as per my postings, have a 1.8 PF Famaval and following comments....'you must have a polar mount'.....agree, but I have enjoyed the manual introduction of the larger dish especially on C-Band!

Like yourself...prepared to pay for quality but locating the item and its delivery cost is an important point.

Thanks for your guidance M. :-applause

Had no reply from Famaval or Marrafa on polar mount purchase or suppliers / shops so no further forward with this.

Great... now I'll HAVE to buy a ball screw jack :( Thanks for nothing, Martin :p :D

Seriously, though, I am glad that there are some good jacks out there. There isn't a single jack that I own that I am totally happy with due to play, noise, unreliability etc. and is the reason why I favour H-to-H motors to jack driven mounts. If these are as good as I am led to believe they are then I'll be happy.

Venture got back to me with a better delivery rate but still to expensive.

Priority Mail International would be $140.00

You would think a company like Red Apple for example ...would realise there is a market for the higher end actuator ...and that importing them and re-selling would be profitable ?
I'm surprised and frustrated there isn't a UK vendor.
Maybe it's because a Von Weise wouldn't fail so quickly ..thus the market wouldn't continually churn..
Why sell 1 when you can sell 10..
..or am I being too suspicious..?

What difference would an inclined orbit make when it comes to actuator size?

Will the 12inch be strong enough to pull your dish up and down ? is it taking all the weight?

You can buy them in size and pulling/pushing power, but yes many thanks that's something to check,

I still need to know the ideal length please, then I can get one with enough humph.

I used 18 inch on my inclined 1.2m, only because i had a spare. i would say you only need an inch or two max of movement, most sats are only a few degrees inclined up or down.

My small 10" one (er... the actuator, that is) is fine for adjusting declination on my 1.5m dish. It's in tension, so I have a short piece of rope safeguarding it in case it decides to fail. The dish is quite light though and it has no problems moving it up and down a couple of inches.

The 1.8m CM is a different beast though - much heavier, so I would want something beefier...but a 12" should be ok. And if it's used in compression mode, then there's far less chance of failure.
