Just as the sun has appeared enabling some long range photography, over goes my tripod with camera and 500m lens attached onto a stone floor. Don't think this one is cheaply repairable.

Oh dear Rolf, that looks like an expensive lapse of concentration, do you think Olympus or an agent will look at it or is it a right-off?

Crikey, Rolf, that's a bit of a bugger: Is it Covered under a Clause of your Contents Insurance?

SWMBO has dropped her Lumix a couple of times from a couple of feet onto a hard landing, but fortunately no harm done. They generally seem pretty robustly made these days, but it looks like the point of impact is crucial. Having the big lens on won't exactly have helped.

That's a bummer Rolf. A rotten start to a sunny Sunday.

Clever use of mirrors there Rolf, the quality of those images confirms the damage can't be too bad. ;)

Bought a replacement on ebay last night, being sold as for parts not working, but works with a few problems, it's a model and version better than the one I've just trashed and I reckon even if I need to get it repaired, it'll be half the price of getting a new one. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/370820765449?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649

Don't think I'll bother with the insurance, as we don't have a new for old policy and it isn't worth a lot now secondhand.

Lovely spot, seen a couple of Redstarts here, not as many as usual, normally see a Black Redstart as well, but not so far.

New camera arrived yesterday morning, managed to have a play yesterday evening, it's an Olympus E-30, a bridge between the E-520/E-620 and the professional E-5. This particular one has a fault which means it will occasionally forget settings in the non automatic modes, something I can probably live with, particularly as I managed to secure it at just under £100, it's streets ahead of my old E-520.
