Hi

I am a littlem confused about this.

I thought the DS430n was the new version of the 2600 and had improved performance in fringe areas.

Just lloking on eBay and someone selling a Pace 2600 claims that the DS430n is no good in Spain and the 2600 is the preferred model.

Can anyone advise?

Kind regards

The Pace 2600 and D430 are identical in performance, have had this confirmed by users on "edge of footprint" :)

Sorry to disagree, zansi, but the 2600 is definitely the better performer in this fringe area (the Costa Blanca) and, as such, fetches a premium over the DS430N for a used model. I ask, and get, 20 Euros more, and, even then, I have a waiting list even though I sell *new* DS430Ns at only 60 Euros more. However, I agree that the statement that the DS430N is "no good in Spain" is rubbish - it's the best *new* box for the area, and, after the 2600 C1 the best box of all time.

I've run side by side tests of the two boxes running off the same (quad) LNB from a 2,4m dish in two "problem" situations. On Channel 4, which is weak between 1500 and 1600 GMT, the 2600 "stayed in" with no blocking or other artefacts where the DS430N was unwatchable for at least 30 minutes. Also, on BBC 2 England, which we lose after about 1900 GMT, the 2600 retained the signal for a further 15 minutes over the DS430N. Not a great deal, but it definitely happened.

So, to the the original poster kathekas, buy your DS430N with confidence - it will probably serve you well.

I can only report what has been feedback to me, that the 430 performed well on edge of footprint, I recently sent 2 to the Algarve to replace Pana 30's which were having problems since the software "updates"

Have you experience with the Thomson boxes? I am using the 4210 on the Algarve and found it to be a good performer. :)

Hi Zansi,

Have to back up Billnot all the way..

In Cyprus I have a multi switch and five feeds to my home. I have tested most digiboxes and found the best to be the Pace 2600 C1, followed by the Pace Javelin Mini Digibox - both now out of production.

The DS430N has the fastest loading of the EPG, but is beaten by the above units in ability to hold a weak signal. The PACE 3100 SKY + appears to perform as per DS430N. When a DS430 N breaks up on a weak regional ITV, the first two units are still pulling in the signal perfectly.

I'm now tesing a Thomson 4210 and SKY+ 160 models to see how they perform.

The reception conditions in Portugal and the Costa Blanca are different. That could explain the different experiences - after all, we're comparing what we all agree are both excellent boxes.

Zansi, the Thomson 4210 performs well here. But so does the Grundig 310, which isn't well regarded elsewhere. OTOH, we have never had particularly good results with Panasonics, especially when it comes to Channel 4.

I have both Pace 3100 and 3000 Sky + boxes. The 3000 is "out of the box" and the 3100 upgraded to 160Gb. They seem to perform virtually identically and are on a par with the DS430N. If anything the 3000 has the edge over the 3100, but not enough to make any practical difference.

Does anyone know if the Thomson 4210 has the same tuner as the Thomson SKY+ 160 please
