My Satellite Setup
Pace MSS 508-IP receiver
Philips Gregorian dish
Humax F1-C1 digital receiver
I've got an old analogue system: Pace MSS 508-IP driving a Philips
Gregorian Dish with a Humax F1-C1 for FTA digital stations. The Pace
being used mainly to drive the dish.

The Pace 508 has gone "belly up". When the power lead is plugged in
There is a clicking sound but nothing else. The clicking sound
continues for a few seconds after the power is removed.

As I say it is an old system. Is it possible to still get the 508 repaired?
If so any suggestions as to where and who to contact would be appreciated. I live in the SW london area.

alternatively,

According to the manual the Pace 508 provides 36v DC to drive the
dish. Would a new receiver like the Technomate 5500CIP or DAPCI
which also provide 36V to the dish be a "drop in" replacement for the
508 driving my existing dish (Philips Gregorian)?

Any help appeciated, Pete.

Sounds like the power supply, it is repairable, I believe that they still do the kits at satcure, but the Technomate would be a good replacement.

As Rolf says, the technomates would be a good replacement. Obviously if you are not bothered about receiving analogue channels then you wouldn't want the DAPCI. It's costs quite a bit more than the CIP. Then again if you are looking for an inbuilt hard drive as well as 36v positioner you would need something else. A manhattan for example.

Thanks Jimbo, Thanks Rolfw for the replies.

I think it is time to update. I like the look of the Technomate
but will have a look at the Manhattan range.

Have you tried the hairdryer method yet?

Stand well clear and send all pets and children out of the room first.

Seriously though, it's only a temporary solution to get the caps up to temperature.

For well less than a fiver you could replace the ele caps in your psu and if you don't want it then there will be a serviecable drive for a poor newbie or other deserving cause (do it & feel GooooD)

Thanks for the reply. I'm used to using a soldering iron and am tempted to try.
Problem is I haven't got a circuit diagram and there are no obvious signs of damage therefore I don't know which ones to replace. Have you got more specific info? if so I would love to have it or perhaps a link to where it can be found.

Peter.

I think that they do a kit _http://www.satcure.co.uk/spares/kitlist.htm probably comes with instructions.

Thanks. I been in touch with them and the kits are still available. I've
ordered one, should be here within three days. Hopefully it will do the trick.
