yes you can paint the dish, but it should be smooth

A good quality external gloss should do, you can even use spray paint as long as it is not metal based.
Below is my 85cm dish before I changed to a 1m. Yellow is Crown exterior paint, black is common blackboard paint.

Car primer in an appropriate colour is supposed to work well.

Make sure that the paint is a matt finish, not gloss.
A gloss finish plus strong sunlight can damage the lnb.

Mine was painted to p*ss off the grassing neighbours who made me take down the 1.25m dish. Never had any problems with useing gloss paint though. Mind you I did not paint the whole face of the dish

My Satellite Setup
sAT.: EechostarDVB 1000Ci2 (no 7 tears old and faulty), one Analogue receiver threshold -3dB, even older but still in good working order, 3.6m mesh dish with positioner, California feedhorn with mech. polarizer and C- and Ku- Band LNBs.

A friend of mine (an excellent spray painter for cars etc.) sprayed his dish, not telling me.
After 2 month he had no reception. Lucky for him, he had a LNB (California) with a LED visible outside, to indicate power at the LNB. That LED was off (he looked at night time from ground - ususlly easily visible). Next day he phoned me and he sounded very exited. - We have a biiig short, the front cover of the LNB melted away and I have no picture - . Not knowing what to say, I visited him.
But when I saw that shiny, in dark brown (to match the face briks) spotless spraypainted dish, I knew what happened. The LNB was virtually fried & cooked.
LNB was replaced but first -
- dish down, water grinding paper 600 (or whatever he called it) and the paint received after some effort, a matt finish. That was 6 Years back. Replaced LNB still working.
