Typical, I switch the feed over to Ku-Band and there is a glut fest of increased signal levels that you boys are mopping up. I am gonna return to this satellite at some point with a dish worthy of the challenge, my wimpy 2.0m bin lid just aint up to the task for sucking decent juice from this bird.

Yet to be decided, looking at options and ease of mounting without a huge amount of fabrication work onto my existing Precision polar mounts and ground stands. No wad shelled out for now, just on the sniff for something suitable.

I think it my be that "old"- (20 years maybe) Gardinier Block/flange .l.n.b. that i fitted a few days ago that helped with those last two t.p,s .... it had the edge on some frequencies over the l.n.b.f,s when i did some comparisons the other day.

I,m going to turn the arrangement 90 degrees this afternoon for H transponders and optimize it for 3834 H 6500 ... my original target here ... as it has the one channel on it (8XM) that i would actually spend time watching here on Paksat .. i used to receive this channel and "Jalwa" another music video channel until they changed frequency and upgraded to -S2 8PSK etc.

This will probably be my last ditch effort here before i go back to K/u again for a while ...
I look forward to seeing some results from you with a 3 meter dish in the near future - @moonbase

No chance or receiving my original target - 3834 H 6500 - here, my best effort was 2.5 db short of lock.
So that,s it from this sat for now ... the dish has been returned to k/u again for a while ... tracking down weak signals from here was enjoyable though, and kept me part occupied through the x mas / new year period.

Yes, 38.0 East has been an interesting and sometimes frustrating satellite to scan this past month or so.

If you have the 2.4m CM back on Ku-Band with the Ku LNB at the focus there are some feeds on the Middle East beam from 39.0 East that offer a little bit of a challenge. The 11450 - 11580 MHz range on 39.0 East has feeds in DVB-S2 8PSK with FEC of 5/6 requiring 9.4dB for a lock. I have been hovering a couple of dB below a lock with the Precision 2.0m dish but your 2.4m CM should be capable of getting them?

O.K - M.B. - Will have a look there when i have the chance ... Poor weather forecast for the next day or two up here in the north - possible strong winds.

... just had a quick look at that 3834 H signal out of curiousity Nelson but due to the strong LHC signal on the same freq next door at 40°E i stood no chance

I'm back

There looks to have been quite a few changes to the frequency line up on 38.0 East since I last had a good sniff at it over two years ago.
So, off we go, back on the merry go round of scanning at different times of the day, using different LNB's, variation of the feed aperture distance from the dish and variation of the scalar along the feed barrel.

In the past I have found that all of the above four variables can impact the signal level and it is a case of recording frequency locks as and when they come as each variable is changed.
To kick things off I have done a basic scan using an Octagon SF8008 without ultra fine tuning the dish. Once I have fine tuned the Az/El/Skew I will consider this as the baseline scan result from which I hope to improve upon.

Attached below are a few screen grabs from the basic scan, it resulted in 22 frequencies and 70 channels locked.
Hopefully these numbers will increase once I have exhausted all the variables associated with tuning the dish and feed setups.

That,s a very good start @moonbase  ... is that with Your Precision 2.0m dish? ..... i,v given up with the 2.4 c.m. now this far north .... I did eventually reach my target here - 3834 H 6500 - (post 204) - with the - 3 m Prodelin - and was able to hold the lock at almost all times of day .... how is that transponder with you ?.

I am 1.9dB below the lock level for 3834 H with 7.5db at the moment, it needs a theroetical 9.4dB.
Perhaps with some Az/El/Skew tuning and some focal/scalar adjustments I might get it to lock.

The current LNB setup is a Titanium LNBF in a non polo pipe in order to get the feed rim opening aperture with options for changing the distance from the dish.
The Titanium LNBF on its own does not get within the desired forcal distances I wish to test, whereas in a non polo pipe I have adjustment scope.
I have a set of adjustable stainless steel feed support arms made by forum member Rima. At some point I might fit them so that I can eliminate the non polo pipe and use the LNBF directly in the feed clamp.

I will upload a few channel screen grabs before I start tweaking just in case I lose some of those I have with the tweaking.
In the past I have found that adjustment of the feed/scalar pair distances can bring in previously unlockable frequencies at the expense of some of those locked.
It's a reet queer game this C-Band malarky with this 38.0 East satellite.

You are probably within reach of 3834 H .... it varied between 9.5 and 10.5 db for me here - when i was on this sat a couple of months back ....

I,v changed the location of the 3.m. about 3 weeks ago, and re motorized it with a short jack to move between western sats .. so cant currently see if 3834 H is still at the same levels... in theory i should still be able to see 38 E from where the dish is currently located if i put the jack on the other side of the mount. I may try that if i get the time over the weekend.

I agree 38 East C band is a fun challenge for us here in the U.K. - seperate l.n.b / feed settings for individual transponders ..... transponder strengths that vary from day to day ... and during the day etc ... and some signals that seem totally out of reach - even with the largest of dishes :-)

Following on from the above post I have attached below some more screenshots of locked frequencies from 38.0 East and appended the details to the list.
The forum limits the number of attachments per post to 10, hence the need to spread the screenshots across two posts.
