patching,how do u do it?

Hi,
Can anyone be kind enough to let me know how to patch a receiver or -upgrade a patch-.'cause,when i first got my powersky receiver i've been told that it was patched with martix .I had to key in two sets of codes numbers to activate the (software/patch)and with the right hex keys i could unscramble channels.not any more as most encryptions have changed.
Are there any new patches out there to clear via**ess2,s**a2...?and can i transfer/load the patch from the PC to the receiver?
any info is much appriciated.
