Hi there!
I'm new to this, so bear with me.
I've had Sky in Europe for longer than I can remember and have had no real problems. Yesterday I came home and nothing worked, or rather, Sky had been suspended. I can still get the FTA programmes, but Sky has disappeared. I called them and was told that I was two months in arrears, as my credit-card company (VISA) had claimed that my account had been cancelled. I couldn't quite believe this and called again to have it confirmed. The second guy confirmed what the first had said and also commented that he'd heard that Sky was refusing to accept cards from non-UK institutes, but didn't know why.
I called VISA this morning and the lady there told me that everything was OK so I called Sky again and had a long chat with a girl called Carolyn (lovely Scottish accent.....). She told me that the credit-card companies had recently introduced a charge for using the card in a foreign country. I've always paid a 1% surcharge on foreign transactions, but now it looks like VISA, MasterCard and whoever are also charging the recipients as well.
Under these circumstances, I can actually understand Sky not accepting foreign cards (although I'm convinced it goes against some EU law) and will probably have to open an account in the UK to get Sky back.
As chance would have it, I'm over there next week . . .
Hope I could be of help.
Greetings from Germany,
