Title says it all. There's a Philips 25PT452105 at a local auction on Tuesday and if it understands French Secam L transmissions I'll buy it if it's cheap enough. I've done a trawl with Google but haven't been able to come up with any answers.

The TV was actually manufactured in France according to the label so I reckon I've got a better chance than with mosts TVs.

Help someone!

Paul, AFAIK the last two numbers are the suffix denoting the region the TV is supposed to be used in, e.g 25PT4521 (model no.)/05 being for the UK.

Having said that, nowadays most TVs are more versatile in that they can be changed via a menu to the various countries' systems.

Sorry can't be more specific for that model.

Here'a a short form pdf owner's manual for the /05 model.

You'll see that the country that you are using it in can be changed in the menu (hopefully :))

It's not a particularly new TV as it's not silver or widescreen. Bit of a gamble in the end I suppose.

Thanks Llew.

Certainly seems as if you can use it in another country reading the pdf (page 5).

A little less analogue, and a lot more crap.

If you take a satellite receiver and Freeview box over there then you should be safe ;)

Already got a setup for Astra 2, this is for the local French TV which, as most of it's crap, basically just the weather forecasts.

Took a small Freeview TV with me last time (2 weeks ago) and it failed to get anything. According to what I've read the Avignon transmitter (which is Mont Ventoux) has just started TNT (Digital Terrestrial) transmissions but we're talking about test transmissions of watts, whereas the analogue is tens or hundreds of kilowatts.

Maybe in the future, but not yet.

Paul, regarding that Philips model, checking some manufacturers' info I have, it's unlikely that it comes equipped with a Secam decoder, even if the menu gives the French system alternative.

I think that model needs to have a different suffix (/01 or /19 are the French versions AFAIK)

Whoops, just left a bid for it today. Still, will only be £12 if it's wrong.

I left a maximum bid of £14 and was beaten by a bid of £16 so I will never know now.

Thanks for the help along the way Llew.
