I bought my dad a Philips DTR500 for Xmas and it seems to have locked up. He switched the power off at the waal to plug it into a four-way extention lead. When he powered it back up the only thing that happens is the red standby LED lights up. Nothing else happens at all, i've been through the trouble shooting section of the instructions to no avail.......can anybody help? or is this a faulty box? Many thanks.

Wirral, NW UK and Vaucluse, France.
Try plugging it back in to the wall socket. If it doesn't work then it may be a duff unit.
