photos for web?

could anyone tell me the resolution (pixels) and maximum size that images can be on a wesite; I know if you have them too big they can take ages to load. I suppose I will have to work to the lowest denominator ie. dial-up.

I tend to use nothing much bigger than 25 Kilobytes and general page graphics of less than 10 kilobytes.

....and a quality of around 25% or even less I would suggest. If the software assigns a digit for quality (say on a scale of 1 -10), then 2 or 3 should be ok.
