And the local pub karaoke version of Waiting....

Oh good god, he ruined one of his own songs!!! o_O

I have to show that to my friend across the pond, cos he got a bit of action with the original non-milking it version, if he hears that he'll hate it... :-rofl2

Anyway, I'm just listening to two Foreigner records, just washed them as Head Games was so dirty on the Dirty White Boy track that the stylus was lifting off the track, and the self-titled Foreigner album was just crackling away like fireworks even after a good de-dusting, I'm getting good at washing records, ain't hard to do either, and the results can be pretty good assuming the record's not trashed or the stylus isn't worn out... :)

My infallible method of washing records was to put them under the cold water tap until the muck ran out of them and the water was clean.

With some old records the water was black for a bit.

The only caution is to keep the label dry.

The method that seems to be well-practiced is to wash them in some tepid water with washing up liquid, using a microfibre cloth that can get into the grooves, and then rinse under cold water & dry with a lint-free cloth... :)

As for the label, I've been getting mine wet, but they've not suffered damage, as the trick is not to touch them when they're wet, as they will just dry out again and stay attached anyway... :)

I am sad I didn't evolve anything so sophisticated!

The maniac I got the idea from did have problems when he managed to get the label wet, some would start peeling or curling up.

Well, it's no more sophisticated than washing a plate in the sink, the only difference is the cloth and the water temperature... :D

As for the labels, I don't wash for more than a few minutes, I don't soak them which would lift the labels, the oldest records I've washed so far are the mother's german version of The Magic Flute pressed in 1964, and their label survived the very needed cleaning... :-lol

I have to put this original version of Waiting for a girl like you up, cos that one killed by Lou has gotten on my wick!!

That's better, though sounds worse than my two copies on vinyl, but that's a youtubed version, so it's compressed a lot... :p

Thats like one of those hearing tests where you have to say which one sounds like music and which sounds like a long drawn out rasping fart.

Neither of those versions are what I'd term musical.......the first one is particularly excruciating. It reminds me of a lunchtime pub gig by my mates band quite a few years ago. There were six in the band and four in the audience (including me).....and they were much, much better than that band.......i.e. in tune and kept tempo....

Those two, well, the "eastern" version is just a big no, mostly cos they can't keep time, but also cos they can't seem to read the lyrics properly, the second (which I listened to for about a second), that's like listening to a Bill Shatner cover of something, not bothering to sing, just talking the lyrics, no, just no... o_O

'scuse me while I go cue up WFAGLY on my turntable, just to reset the noise in my head back to the original......

I bought another turntable...

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/201088609804

Mostly cos it's a fully automatic Pioneer PL-400, but also cos I can't be arsed sourcing a spare motor to replace the nylon gear for the PL-300, the 400 has the same motor, but, it's in a better state than the 300 (as far as I can see), so, I'll switch to the 400 when it gets here and fire the 300 back up on ebay... :D
