Has anyone here applied for Planning Permission for a satellite dish.

If so and you were successful how much information did you have to provide - site plans - elevation drawings and the like.

Second question. Has anyone applied for permission for two dishes and again what response/reaction did you get.

(I know that it is likely that I can have these dishes without bothering about Planning Permission with little chance of any problem. But I am applying for Planning Permission for something else and thought I might as well include the dishes).

Hi Burnham

Yes, I had to obtain planning permission for my 1.2 dish.

This consisted of, unbelievably :-

6 copies of 'Application for planning permission'
6 copies of building and site plans
2 copies of site ownership
1 copy of Planning application form and the appropriate fees (can't remember how much - this was about 13 years ago)
Some photographs of the intended position of the dish. I chucked in a photo of a full-size polystyrene mock-up of the dish that I made and placed it in position just to be sure
Consultation with my immediate neighbours as to whether it might cause an annoyance (even though there's some horrible looking garages, sheds, aerial arrays etc. dotted around the area).

They are (or were) pretty strict regarding dish siting in my neck of the woods, even though I'm bounded by 6 foot fencing around my garden.

Needless to say, I've raised my dish considerably higher since then, with no complaints.

the 13E dish now boasts two lnbs, i'd like to stick a minidish up at 28E but fear that 3 dishes might be considere OTT

Hello Burnham Beech
Yes, I've just been to my archive satellite file and discovered it was on 26/6/1992 £60.00 fee. Had a 60cm fixed prior to that.
The rest is pretty much the same as Llew
although with reduced numbers of copies
3 copies of 'Application for planning permission'
3 copies of building and site plans
1 copy of Planning application form and the appropriate fees.
Having been a mill planner for a couple of years many moons ago I did all the drawings, overhead views and elevation and equipment layouts myself. Having an open aspect to the south i.e. no residents immediately behind made it a formality having previously sweet talked the neighbours three doors either side.
It's always better to keep it kosher as you never know..... there's many a worm turned in the past

Good luck if you decide to go ahead

Regarding needing six sets of everything - they sent me three back saying keep for your records. Strange the ways of officialdom.

Did all the plans myself as I'd built an extension to the house earlier.

Last October I bought a motorised system (Echostar 890, MR'd & MII) with a motorised 80CM mesh dish. I specifically asked the Installer if PP was needed ( I live in Leicester by the way) but he said not for dishes under 90 cm. I was also lucky in that I have mine attached to the back of the house so no-one but next door can see it anyway.

Thanks for all the replies.

Llew - that was a good reply, thanks for all the detail. You gave them much more than I am hoping to get away with. All I intend to show them is the site plan showing where the dish will be placed and an elevation drawing with a circle on it. I will see if I get away with that.

What I'm still wondering is has anyone actually applied for planning permission two dishes - anyone?
