Chris how about a 46inch widescreen high Definition ready rear projection television all for £999.99 plus vat

But is your living room big enough to put it in?

Not to mention the cost of replacement bulbs and cooler fan noise.

Philips have only one service agent in the UK for plasma TVs, so if your Philips plasma develops a fault after the guarantee period it will cost to collect, diagnose and deliver the plasma back £411.25 upfront payment which includes labour but no materials or parts included. You may be able to change the bulb yourself in the Samsung. Costs £250.00 lamp life 45000 hours approx.

Does anyone know how to cause a prefectly good TV to give up it's life without visible marks so that I will be "forced" to buy a new one? (After which miracoulosly after as month or so the old one is repaired by me using information I found on the internet - so the old TV can go into my room?)

Dry jointed or overheated PSU electrolytics are probably your best bet TG. Cheap to replace and easy to diagnose (more so if you caused the fault originally) :D:D

Take the fuse out the plug....

She'll never spot that one.

You could be even more discrete by taking the fuse, putting it in a kettle and so blowing it, then putting it back in the TV again.

Not that I've ever done that to someting in a rented house The fuse keeps blowing, there must be something wrong with it, any chance of a new one?

Of course TG's German tele probably doesn't even have a fuse in the plug O-no

Rolf is right, I read many reviews of the Panasonic plasmas, they were excellent reviews. I am curious is the picture really amazing on Plasma. Also, what would be the cons of plasma tv's, do they have problems

note that fuses inside tv sets are 20mm, so you can't blow them inside a 13A plug using a kettle (at least, not safely!).

Well the fuses in the plugs are 3A or 5A, blows nicely in a 2.2KW kettle :)

not amperage ratings, it's size that's incompatible.

I don't think they're on about TV fuses, spiney. Just the mains plug.

Unfortunately, tv repairers are quite used to scams! If you simply return a working tv set, just for an (obviously deliberately!) blown fuse, you're likely to get a big bill for nothing.

Offhand, I can't think of any way of "disabling" a tv set (without obvious tampering).

Hmm the fuse thing wont work as there are no fuses in plugs here. I suppose the idea is sort of crazy anywhere, I am not sure If I could pull it through.... I suppose I could convince her by tuning the colour really dark and bad until she convinces me it is time for a new plasma TV....

yes, but there is a 20mm fuse inside the tv set, that's my point, and sometimes they do blow for no apparent reason.
