Why did you set the elevation to 40 when the calculation gives you 38 if your lattitude is 52?

PS. I have never set up an actuator on a polar mount and probably nor have most of our members, but I believe that you drive the shaft half way out and then slide it in the clamp so that the dish is dead centre. Not sure whether you new that you have to do this.

I have set up many actuators in the old days, nobody almost uses them anymore in Europe.

First rule is to forget about the scale on the mount, in 99% of all cases they are wrong, don't ask me why they are so stubborn to still use one....

Get the correct apex angle by setting everything pointing straight, what is your latitude? set the elevation angle 90-latitude and measure it on top of some flat surface on the mount.

Next set the declination angle, what is your highest point?

Highest point - Offset angle gives you declination angle!

Measure it on the edge of the dish in the front.

Start peaking the mount, either you choose the most southern satellite at your location or you choose the satellite furthest away from south that you can receive, its a matter of taste.

New school uses the southern satellite to get the North/South orientation.

Old school uses the satellite furthest away, eg Hispasat, to get correct North/South orientation......

And yes, let the acutator slide in the clamp when checking the sats, that what you should do and is the fastest way to do things.

first off rolfw i set it to 52 in the end and likvid you are right the read out on the mount is a waste of time used a angle finder and set to 52 set the dish to about 20 ish.seems to follow the arc ish have a mess tomorrow still can not get a good signal on 16 east.and i was wondering my stab 120 would not go past 20 either side east and west and started to sound a bit rough.checked it when i took it off it is fine.

working fine now as you can see from the first photo signal past 28east will be hard. 2nd photo ok on 13 east and the trees may be the reason for 16 east poor quallity.the 3rd clear as far as the eye can see for west signals picking up 88 signal and 94 signal quallity on carbo 30west.paint job not to bad i did it in the rain last week.as you can see not to much room round here all the houses packed in to one small place.the dish pole will not move i can tell you that for nothing.photos in the next post.

hi m8, personaly i always set my elevation the old fashion way,
i have a sat unit an old echostar and a tv inthe garden so that i can
see the signal from thor, and hen the rest is fairly easy as it follows the
atch perfectly.

i hope it helps.

You got a really nice kit there!
Is it fast too? compared to diseqc-motor.
Dont really get where those problematic trees are?, if its only on 16E you can consider moving the pole.
Maybe next summer?

i think it is to fast wonder if i can slow it down.the trees are the three ferns in the middle that may be the problem.if only i could show you the photo of the pole in the ground.if you seen it you would not ask if it can be moved m8.

Have reduced the size of a couple, so you should be able to upload more, you'll have to edit them down to 150k or less, as I have reduced the maximum size permissable, one of your last ones was half a Meg, as were two or three f the earlier ones..

That's what I'm saying, you cannot upload a photo of more than half a meg, it is way too big anyway, would take an age for someone on dialup to load, reduce the size to 140KB and the upload will be accepted.
