Hello everybody!

Think i am dealing with the same problem. Newbie and setting up a dish with polar mount. My Longitude = 52.00 N and Lititude = 5.53E. Now i can adjust my mount on two places: see pictures

And here:

My thought is that my elevation is 90-52=38. That is the angle i should allign in the bottom picture. My declination is 38-30.51=7.5 this i should align in my top picture?

Is this all right and can somebody explain me if not how to set it up then?

Greetz and thanks in advance!!

I am sorry Impact I have only ever set up my humble polar mount and nobody elses. My first thought thought is what is your dish is it prime focus or offset???

The reason I am asking is because in the top photograph your mount would appear to have been used before and there are stain marks where the top angle was origianlly set and you have it set different. Was the dish installed near you or a long way away from your current location?

The 2nd reason is that if it is offset then I would expect to see the dish generally vertical unless it is a prime focus feed.
Have a look at the area I am talking about highlighted in red.

Thanx for reaction! It is prime focus dish. I allready put it back in the place where you where pointing, it is the declination of 7,5 i think. Only my right elevation now....

hi impact,
i am in the same position as toppervte33h, as in i have an offcenter dish, but you are correct in saying the top one is declination and the bottom one elevation, personally i would have thought the declination would have been the same, just the elevation would be different, but what the hey as i said i have no idea with prime focus, but i have a funny feeling its a bit more simple for you, as with a offcenter we have to take that into consideration when setting the declination
sorry i can't help
phil

Okay somebody knows how to calculate this then? Prime focus dish..
(1) Is it 90 degrees - altitude = elevation? (2) And then calculate elevation with smw link.
Then (1) - (2) = declination???

Nobody??

Okay here my setup...

Curious now...

Arnhem, Netherlands got coordinates 52.00 North 5.90 East.

Put the dish in central apex position, the position where it have the highest elevation.

1. The elevation angle on your mount axle should then be 90-52 = 38 degrees

2. Now set the correct elevation of the dish by measuring on the rim in front of the dish, it should have the highest elevation at your location which is at 5.90 degrees east which corresponds to 30.57 degress.

3. Double check!!

4. Now choose a satellite far away to the west, say Hispasat at 30 degrees West, the elevation for that satellite at your location is 21.91 degrees.

5. Turn the motor til you reach the above elevation for Hispasat.

6. Now loosen the polarmount from the pole and turn the whole mount til you get a signal from Hispasat, you are now adjusting the south/north orientation of the mount, fasten the mount to the pole now when you have maximized the signal.

7. Now check the rest of the satellites on the clarke belt, do you need to lower or raise the dish?

That is a bit summarization, there are some figures on the net on what to adjust when elevation is too low or high on some satellites.....

Here is a better picture i found, learn the patterns and you will be able to align your mount to perfection.
