Hello Everyone.

Some help please from those in the know.
Sorry if this sounds stupid but I just can't get my head around it.

I have a 1.2mt dish on a Polar Mount which I plan to put on a pole up against a 3ft high wall pillar.
My question is "How high above the pillar does the top of the pole need to be so that any part of the dish doesn't hit the wall considering how a polar mound swings across its arc ? "

Thank you.
Tony.

It all depends on where the dish is sited. If it is on a true south facing wall then you might not need to have it that high, the dish usually only travels 90 degrees, at most, 45E to 45W, a bit further if you want to get some of the more obscure satellites, but quite often just 42E to 30W.
You could use dishpointer.com, to check where you are siting your dish, and see which satellites might be a problem, either with your wall, or obstacles that might interfere with your line of sight.

Its a true South facing wall.
I have tried Dishpointer & at the height of my face which is about 5.8 I have a largely unbroken view of the arc except for a telegraph pole at about 23'. I could avoid this if I went higher but I'm trying to keep the dish as low as possible.
I just need to work out how low I can keep the dish pole as it can get windy down here in the South West of Ireland.

My Satellite Setup
OpenBox X5 on a 1 meter motorized dish.
And now a 10 foot "C" band dish.

Custom built PC
My Location
Deep in the Boonies in the central Sierra Nevada mountains of California.
I usually use 1/4 to 1/2 the diameter of the dish below the bottom of the dish, and 2 x the diameter of the dish on ether side.
