Power off before connecting LNB?

I destroyed my TBS 5925 USB tuner as the (ready-made) LNB cable I was using snapped at the connector end and shorted the inner and outer parts. :(

The TBS device stank of halogens for weeks (blown capacitor? I couldn't check as they use 'special' screws to keep the case together)

I wish I turned the power off beforehand as they're not cheap devices! :-doh

Now I use my old Technomate receiver which has LNB short circuit protection. I check all cables I make using this device - it only takes one strand of copper to start causing problems...

Ouch. Pulling off the f-connector can be easy to do... has happened to me several times when pulling my STB around to plug in SCART leads. By pure chance the braid didn't get dislodged to make contact with the centre pin.

The 5925 isn't cheap, either...

This is something TBS should really address for their high-end gear.
