I put a new dish today , a 60cm Ross jobbie ...on hotbird for a Polsat box .
Everything fine , part from Kino Polska channel , it was weird , it was working for 10-20 seconds , than break up than no signal , that's after i changed the original Ross lnb as that was no signal on the said frequency from the start .
Anyway , i put it down to either a fault on the box or interference from nearby phones as next door there is a busy office .

Just wondering if anyone had or heard of this before .

DECT normally affects TPs around 11530 and 12480 MHz.

11488 is possibly too far off 11530 for DECT to be the issue.

However, there could be all sorts of "noisy" emitters next door >> Does the problem abate when they've all gone home?

Well , i don't think so as the guy said that particular channel has a problem , but i think it's the whole frequency as he wasn't subscribing to the others ...
there was a bigger dish there before with a similar box and apparently they had the same problem ... so it makes sense for interference to be the culprit .

Will the ,, noise '' affect the box or the lnb ?
Can i overcome it somehow ? ... cover the lnb in tin foil or something :) ?

Box is essentially a Faraday Cage and so relatively immune.

Local interference actually exploits weaknesses in the cabling and connectors: So consider things like the quality of the cable, whether it has any poor or unnecessary joints in it etc. Wall Plates can be a problem unless they are high-quality ones that maintain full screening.

One way to test this is (if possible) to go outside and connect the receiver to a short cable run from the LNB. Shorter cables will have less of a chance to collect noise and you'll see if this exercise fixes the issue. It could of course be a faulty, old or water ingressed cable or even just bad connections.

Are the signals nice and strong on other transponders?

The cable is new and good quality , thick , strong type and no more than 3-4m long , screw on type F plugs , no problems there .

The dish however , what a pile of poop .
Hotbird being such a strong satellite .
It does outperform a Z1 minidish but not by much . I've put many Z1's on Hotbird and nobody has complained . A lot for Polsat .

The signal peaked at 70-71 strength and maybe 58ish quality on my Techno-meter ( Technomate box with an Lcd screen attached ) and 95-96 / 50 ish on the Polsat box .
I do think that the Polsat was not pulling in enough on the quality side ... but i never got anymore on a Polsat box and it was fine before .

And the description of the same fault before in the same location with different kit only makes me think that the surrounding environment has something to do with it . The signal is there but just goes away to 0 in a matter of seconds , and if you change channel and come back to Kino P it happens again ,,, works fine for half a minute than back to 0 and it's oscilating , up , down , only the strength ; 0 quality .

Ignore the strength settings - they mean little. Never used a Ross dish but it should be fine for receiving a Hot Bird. Not sure what quality values translate to in dB levels but it doesn't seem like a lot. What do you need to get a lock on the Technomate box?

Just checked that transponder and it's on par with others on the same satellite/position.

It can pick up a steady picture on less than 40 quality .
