Good afternoon from a wet Mullion Cove Cornwall.

Looking for a new C band LNB..

PSI X-2 LNB or C1W PLL LNB or other, I will be using a 1.5 so need all the signal I can get : )

We lost C band yesterday, it came up again this afternoon then faded down on 5 West from 59 TO 53 with a rain storm ?

It has been as high as 70 in the past few days.

Lost 20 East at that point.

C1W PLL LNB 1.4 Triax prime focus.

I thought C band was less affected by rain, the KU signals held up OK.

It could of course be a fault the LNB, it is covered apart from the opening.

If there is water or damp inside electronics can do strange things.

I know I dropped a hand held down the toilet : )

My Satellite Setup
OpenBox X5 on a 1 meter motorized dish.
And now a 10 foot "C" band dish.

Custom built PC

"C" band is a bit better on the rain fade problem, but only if you use a proper sized dish for that band, a 1.5 meter dish is a bit small for good reception on "C" band, but will work great for "Ku" band. Normal installs for a "C" band system use around a 3 meter dish for good reception.

The LNB it's self is very water tight if properly installed, however the coax could be another problem, water getting into the connections can cause all sorts of problems, if the outside connections to the LNB and ground block are not properly sealed, water can and will get in, also if the coax jacket is old it can crack, this would let water inside to affect the insulation and shielding braid, this would affect the signals.

Another problem could be that water has got in sometime in the past and caused the center conductor to rust if it is the copper plated type of center conductor used in cheap coax, the rust can affect one band but not the other, this due to wierd prblems related to the change in inductance on the coax.

Good evening Terryl

Thank you for you words of wisdom.

The cable is solid copper, the connetor is covered as is most of the LNB with a transparent bag.

Condensation does occur during the Summer.

The connecter was clean and the cable is only a couple of years old.

Most of it is inside the building, but you never know, something is wrong.

Tomorrow I will take a receiver outside and connect to the LNB via a fly lead.

Then maybe direct a hair drier into the LNB, the best signals today appeared while the sun was out after a night of heavy rain.

It does not have a rain cap on due to a T shaped dielectric strip that protrudes.

Could be there is some corrosion in side, perhaps where the aerial rods enter the electronics ?

Either way I am going to find a repayment one for the new Precision 1.5, it will be an improvement on the Triax 1.4 and a much better mount.

The max size I could install due to its wall location is a 1.8, when I get one the 1.5 will then replace the 1.3 Precision on KU.
