Just tried to open my front door to go to work ..
It took all my strength to stop it being ripped from it's hinges ..
Closed it and came back inside ..
I may not bother with work today..
cest la vie..
In the meantime ...the VHF dipole is flat to the roof now ..the upright pole having been bent over by the wind ..
and this has little surface area ..
I dread to see what damge has been done outside ..
but I can't open a door to find out..

Hi --
Only 50 miles north of you .. and although we had torrential rain during the night and early this morning ... the winds have been only moderate to strong ... certainly not gale force .... as yet.

..The dish at 54W is now vibrating less violently ...and the constant howl is do longer audible through the double glazing ..
Birds are slowly returning to the branches of leafless trees ...
Maybe the worst is over here ?
Hopefully..
But sure was fast moving ..
I have yet to pluck up courage and inspect for more damage ..
Stay safe peeps ..

Had to anchor my exposed Gibby down with guy ropes after the polar mount twisted round quite a few degrees. Not going up there to turn it back - I turned the pole round instead, easy as I can access the pole clamps at ground level. Will need adjustment after the winds subside to peak it again on its last sat position.
It's seen off other windy periods before over the years - Doris, you are being particularly vicious around my patch

Looks like the Zone 2 dish has shifted in the wind - no signal to the Sky box downstairs! :(

Luckily, after a lot of fiddling with various stuff I hadn't done before, I got a decent signal from the free 28E signals on the tuner in the X275 (a separate volume control settings in Win7 and 2 more in ProgDVB didn't help!) and now finally watching Supervet on C4!

At least we can watch the last episode of Murder in Paradise (Yes, I know, but it's quite funny!) at 9pm (step-daughter is staying here tonight after deciding to stay incommunicado for the last 3 months - long story, not to bore you with that but it has caused family "issues" in the meantime).

However, we now have quite a noticeable sound sync issue as the sound leads the picture by about 0.5s - anyone know how to fix that?

Sorry to hear about your zone 2 dish, jeallen01.

I was convinced that my 80cm was going to be dangling when I got home tonight, as from motor to dish, its only ever had one bolt holding it up (no idea why it was put up like that, but as its the centre one bolted, its actually pretty stern). Thankfully it took the 60mph winds and was still standing strong, oddly I'm actually getting a better signal reading then I did last night and its raining outside - I'm beginning to think the wind has shifted it back into position as it was ever so slightly out.

By comparison with what others are probably suffering my problems should be quite easy to fix

Well, just had two days worth of wind here, probably not Doris, but certainly precursors.
I think Doris is actually here right now - we've had some snowfall for the past 5 hours, but not as much as the worst-case forecast warned of (20 cm).

It's not frost yet, so the some snow melt quickly. (And provide very slippery road surfaces!)
(and look at the vibrant green colour under the trampoline - it's a camera-thing; it's not really that green this time of year!)

Anyway, here's a winter's dish for you:

I can hardly believe the following:
1) the Zone 2 dish had moved , but only slightly
2) in the end, and after a LOT of fiddling about behind the AV setup (including swopping the Sky HD box for an older one, and then trying to update the f/w on both without success - no signals from any output on the Quad LNB on that dish), I finally concluded that ALL FOUR of the LNBs in that Quad LNB appear to have failed! Now temporarily using the connections to the Twin LNB on the Triax (pointed at 28E) to run the Sky box whilst waiting for a replacement Quad for the Zone 2 dish!

Had to realign my sky dish today, added another 4.5 db to the blaze transponder 11081.

Hopefully it will stop blocking up on me.

I guess it's been off for a while.

All working now.

Popped over to Liverpool today and while walking through Birkenhead saw the result of Doris's huff-and-puff.IMG_1258a.JPG IMG_1259a.JPG

Oh dear. Fancy leaving work, wanting to drive home and then finding your car is less than drivable!

Well, it could be could be "switch" portion of the LNB has failed. This will leave no outputs at all.
Cheap electronics, after all. I bet if you got one that cost 250 GBP it would outlast your house. Not worth it, though, if you can have a new one for a tenner. You can have 5 lying about for psares... :)

Which reminds me, as a Sat Nut, I would expect you would have a spare quad lying about somewhere ;)

Joking aside, its nice to see that that you have a back-up plan after all :D

Apart from the damage to the cars, the wall construction strikes me as a bit weird? Bricks outside bricks, but no insulation?
Last time I saw cavity-insulation only was on a house from the 1910's (my parents'!)

Not a house, some kind of warehouse or factory building. The building is basically a metal frame with the big holes filled up by bricks.
