OpenBox X5 on a 1 meter motorized dish.
And now a 10 foot "C" band dish.

Custom built PC
My Location
Deep in the Boonies in the central Sierra Nevada mountains of California.
I warmed up the old Yaesu FT1000 last night and swept through the low ends of the AM broadcast bands, did not hear much from your side of the pond as the locals were dropping in and out like crazy, I did hear some good stuff on the higher bands but could not understand most of them.

At 640 KHz KFI in Los Angles is a clear channel so I can't tune in around 639 KHz, you may have pick up Radio Nacional in Madrid it's on 639 KHz.

Here is a good web site for the Short Wave stuff.

Shortwave schedules around the world with frequencies in kHz and distance calculator

I think Caroline is off now. The 2 active stations are RNE, Spain and Radio Murski Val, Slovenia. The big ones inc Saudi are off air.

As far as I understand they are still in the testing phase. Therefore transmissions will be intermittent - most likely at weekends. Alternatively the propagation could just be terrible tonight so they arent getting out very far!

Caroline is on at the moment but Web SDR was "hearing" RNE a few minutes ago. You'll find that Caroline may come in and out as the stations fade differentialy. Set WebSDR to AMsynch mode with a bandwidth around 5kHz. When it locks to 647.996kHz, that's Caroline

im sure i am because i put in 648 into websdr
Thats no guarantee its Caroline - there are several stations around Europe using 648khz. High power Spanish, & Slovenian transmitters for starters - both easy catches in the UK after dark. And all fading in and out over a few minutes making a hideous racket at times :D

The easiest way to check its one station is to compare the output against the webstream - you may find its anything up to a few minutes out of synch but you will soon work out if its the right service

Unlike a lot of other MW frequencies the only two Europeans on 648 are Spain and Slovenia. Neither is very high power at 10 KW each. The details are in the link in post #64 from Channel Hopper.

Spain is almost exclusively speech and 648 can be checked against other high power transmitters like 639 or 585. Slovenia can be strong but easy to identify as not being Caroline. Caroline is consistently strong on the SDR in Northampton.

Here's the signal relative to other stations during the day

caroline_30-11-17_13-10.GIF

The strong signal on 693 is BBCR5. The audio clip gives an idea of the SNR but there's a lot of PC noise so I can't hear the generator in the background:p

648 has been 24/7 since Saturday morning with back to back music and occasional announcements about the test transmissions, it's not in parallel with any of the other Caroline streams now. Over the weekend it was carrying the North service that goes out on 1368 Manx Radio. Unless you are close to Orfordness then expect it to get battered by either Spain or Slovenia from dusk until after sunrise.

Ahem we dont do all the work for folk here John. Its long been our policy to guide people when they get stuck, provide encouragement when they seem to have lost enthusiasm, and provide the links for folk to find out themselves. We will not provide detailed answers for every single question you might have about hundreds of topics.

You have been provided with a source of information - and google will provide you with more answers should you need more info. Go and google - you will be amazed at what you might find out.
