My Satellite Setup
OpenBox X5 on a 1 meter motorized dish.
And now a 10 foot "C" band dish.

Custom built PC
My Location
Deep in the Boonies in the central Sierra Nevada mountains of California.
East West DX is down, but North South DX is blazing, 10 meter band is wide open to South America from my location, but in Europe the 160 meter and 600 meter bands are jumping all over the place, so the 460 meter band (640 KHz) should be also.

You all need to try out some better LF antennas.

Been listening since it reappeared yesterday morning relaying Caroline North from the Ross Revenge, they've successfully applied for a change of site to the original licence so are now using 1kW ERP from the back up (and omni) 648kHz mast at Orfordness. It's covering most of Essex, Kent and East Sussex and Holland at entertainment level although the further out the greater the problem of modern day EMI. Anorak level seems to be the southern half of England and North coast of France. Here on the coast it's strong enough to listen to around the house on a decent portable and my original ghettoblaster that was last used to listen to it back in the 80s, upstairs in the shack it's 9+20dB on an Icom 8500 and Wellbrook magloop.

I can hear it on the iPad here (and I assume the android phone) on Tunein radio app.

Curiously it also fades in and out, about once every three minutes, not totally, meaning it is still streets ahead of DAB/DAB+ .

Now all they need are some decent jockeys.

Caroline North
This weekend's Radio Caroline North broadcast from our ship Ross Revenge has now concluded.

Many thanks to all involved, our sponsors, Manx Radio and all who were able to listen in.

There will be one more Caroline North broadcast this year, over the weekend of 16th and 17th December.

Surprisingly clear here on 648 in Worcester. Having said that, although it’s daytime currently we’re at that sort of time of year where that doesn’t make a massive amount of difference.

Rare that I have a flick through MW these days. Interesting to see what BBC locals come in. I’ve just had BBC 3CR (630), BBC Wales (657/882/1125), BBC Essex (765/729), BBC H&W (738/1584), BBC Devon (801), BBC Scotland (810), BBC Norfolk (873), BBC Cambridgeshire (1026), BBC Derby (1116), BBC Wiltshire (1332/1368), BBC Ulster (1341), BBC Gloucestershire (1413), BBC Merseyside (1485), BBC Stoke (1503) and BBC Somerset (1566).

I wonder how many people are actually listening to those rather than FM/DAB/online these days!

Radio Merseyside was set to lose the AM transmissions along with a few other local BBC stations a little while ago but apparently enough people DO listen in to the AM service and made their opinions known so it was saved. Others? Dunno.

There was talk a few months ago, that owing to the failure of DAB to achieve suitable penetration in a number of countries, the governing agencies were going to allow FM licensing to continue.

If there is continued service at VHF, it follows that broadcasters on medium wave transmissions do not have to choose to go digital at all and might take up a recently vacated FM frequency if their material is region specific.

13 frequencies to close in January apparently -

Changes to some BBC local radio medium wave services

BBC Radio Sussex, Surrey, Humberside, Wiltshire, Nottingham, Kent, and Lincolnshire will go completely. BBC Devon, BBC Lancashire and BBC Essex will each lose some but not all of their MW frequencies. For Essex this will be 1530 in Southend - apparently it's been broadcasting a message over the last week rather than the usual programmes!

Of the ones I can get here, BBC Wiltshire on 1332 and 1368 will disappear. Then maybe BBC Devon on 801 as well depending on which transmitter they'll be switching off. I'd imagine it's more likely to be the Torbay 1458 or Exeter 990 versions though.

Just checked the wife's car radio at Hampton. Really abysmal reception of some music , though the tuning is stuck in 9kHz blocks, nearest is 648

Um, isn't that the declared frequency?

And 9KHz is the European spacing for AM.

I don't know how accurate the tuning is in the car radio circuit though when I drove towards home I did find two Hispanic / Spanish stations either side at 639 and 657kHz.

The only tune I could discerne at the correct frequency was the Buzzcocks 'Ever Fallen In Love with Someone You Shouldn't have', about an hour ago, but would have to check the playlist later
