Tried again here (Hampton Court area) with the portable radio in the kitchen, no luck unless the play list is different to those mentioned online.

I doubt the playlist is online as it's a test broadcast fed from whoever is engineering it as the BW processor is being remotely adjusted. RemoteHams.com - ORB (ignore the login) or one of the East coast SDRs will confirm it one way or the other.

13 frequencies to close in January apparently -

Changes to some BBC local radio medium wave services

BBC Radio Sussex, Surrey, Humberside, Wiltshire, Nottingham, Kent, and Lincolnshire will go completely. BBC Devon, BBC Lancashire and BBC Essex will each lose some but not all of their MW frequencies. For Essex this will be 1530 in Southend - apparently it's been broadcasting a message over the last week rather than the usual programmes!

Of the ones I can get here, BBC Wiltshire on 1332 and 1368 will disappear. Then maybe BBC Devon on 801 as well depending on which transmitter they'll be switching off. I'd imagine it's more likely to be the Torbay 1458 or Exeter 990 versions though.

The list of frequencies to be cut has been published:

Humberside & Lincs are confirmed to have been shut down yesterday. Just a short info loop on atm. This will cease on Jan 29th

BBC Wiltshire is off now too according to the list. I keep meaning to check during the day as I can receive both 1368 and 1332 here.

...definitely off with a looping message saying to retune to 103.5/103.6/104.3/104.9, DAB or Freeview now on 1332 and 1368.

Interestingly they must be playing the message out locally at each transmitter as the two frequencies aren’t in sync.

Kent are using MP3 players at the TX site. Sussex and Surrey are both playing a similar retune loop. AS's list suggests that Bexhill is part of BBC Surrey, it isn't :)

For the first time this winter I managed to get Caroline 648khz on the car radio whilst parked up on high ground near Galashiels this afternoon at half four ish. Fading in and out over a few minutes but most acceptable at the top of the fades. Presumably via grey line propagation :)

Shame the signal disappears into ignition mush as soon as I start theb engine.

Reminds me of 1984/5 when I was down in the Midlands. Laser 558 was always high power acceptable signals during the day. Caroline 576 was pretty ropy & suffered ignition shash.
