I may have knackered my router so if I can't get it working again, can anyone recommend an ADSL router (e.g. has a modem as well)? Doesn't have to be cheap but it must be reliable.

Thanks :)

p.s. if you don't see me here for a few days/ week you know why :(

If you don't want wireless, I'd go for a Speedtouch 546 – they have a fantastic reputation, very reliable and have some features not found on most others. :)

I've got a Netgear DG834G, superb DSL modem Wireless router. Had it for three years now and it has never let me down, plus it is quite easy to set up demilitarised zones etc. :)

I have recently tried a DLink DI-624 and I have to say its the worst box I have ever used. Very unstable on various Firmware versions.

It is the only box available here in Lagos that can do PPPoE and Wireless but it doesnt do both with stability.

Wired ethernet connections are stable though.

One to avoid I think.

I have a Linksys WAG354G (UK) which was on offer last Jan at PC world with PCMCIA card for laptop, I think it was £49.99 but cannot quite remember. It is however very reliable and I have upgraded the firmware once. I would however ask you to make sure that any that you buy can accomodate the new BT up to 8meg speed as some cannot cope with the flexible speed system.

I have a couple of bog standard ADSL modems in the shed, a 3240 Intel Anypoint (ancient), and a couple of PCI Dynamode A220 units. Give me an address.

Belkin ADSL Modem with Wireless Pre-N Router is out standing !.

It was on the A list of computer shopper and I thought I'd give it go.

I'd be astounded if there is anything better out there. Get great reviews also !

Cheers CH, PM on the way :)

Still dead- doing this in the library!

edit:

got it working again but if it dies again I'll look at the suggestions (Netgear would be my choice as they've always worked well for me in the past).

:)

Try dsldepot if nothing else for a cheap spare Speedtouch or
Netgear. I bought a Netgear to play with and its still connected at
8Mbs 3000 hours later! Firewall is useful for blocking ad sites
altough somtimes it blocks a site with ads altogether but can
easily have the blocking turned on and off if needs be.

I have been using a Netgear DG 834G for a couple of years or so with no problems at all. :)

I recently transferred to the Postoffice broadband/phone package, and I was delighted to find that they supplied a pre-programmed DG 384G in the package. :-worship

Channel Hopper, just interested which router mhku bought? :)

As for me I'm using D-Link DI-624 for about 1.5 year and haven't any problems with this router. If someone want to buy new router - I'm strongly recommend to point the attention to this model
