Hi there,

I was wondering, what is the best combo for least ammount of heat and optimised speed.

1: Use HDD only for PVR functions and have USB key with images & swap file.

2: Use HDD for PVR & swap file and have USB key with images.

3: Use HDD for PVR,swap & images.

Thanks for any suggestions...
Womb.

I Use USB for images and the HDD for movies. Used to have load of images installed on USB but deleated those now and just use the Gemeni image on USB. No Problems with heat. Using recommended HDD for Dreambox.

Never found any advantage to using a swap file at all. I run with original image in flash, two modified images on 128MB Sandisk Cruzer Mini USB, 120GB stock HDD for movies.

i'm using WD 7200RPM HDD 120GB for both images and recording.

you can say it's heavy duty one. :)

but, will try the usb stick whenever available.

btw, the recommended HDD for DB is SEGATE. but the WD will be ok.

'Ordinary' 7200 RPM drives have never been recommended by Dream Multimedia as they tend to draw more power than 5400 RPM drives, are noisier, and possibly even generate more heat.

Dream now recommends a very specific class of drives from Seagate. Not just any old Seagate drive but the 'CE' (Consumer Electronics) range. Read up on the manufacturers website for details on which drives to go for. They are specifically designed by Seagate for the Dreambox and other STB's.
