Record on an external DVD Recorder. Help!

I have just purchased a Sony DVD recorder (910) with a 250Gb hard disk. I have connected my 7020 to it via scart. The Sony supports synch recording, whereby you utilise the Dreambox timer in order to start recording (i.e. saving yourself from setting timers in both machines). I did as described in the manuals but when the time comes for the 7020 to start sending the signal to the Sony, Dreambox responds with an error message "Failed to record due to inaccecible disk".
Is this normal or there is a setting in 7020 that I failed to touch on?

I could be wrong but do you need to use VCR mode on the 7020 rather than recording to a hard drive? Scart cable or cat5?
