i have a technosat hdva decoder with an external hdd. whilst the deoder has only one tuner i have read that it is possible to record one channel and watch another transmitted on the same transponder.
does anyone know how you can do this as so far it has eluded me, i just get a message telling me i cannot view another channel whilst recording the first

You can only record a programme if it's been mixed with another that you want to watch on the same frequency. This is called a mux (short for multiplexed). In order to find out which oher programmes are in the same mux you need to go to Flysat, Lyngsat or similar and check the channel listings.

Just as an example: on Astra 28 BBC1 HD is on the same mux as BBC HD so would work as you want.
