I am having problems recording to the Dreambox 7000S. It is the first version with a blue panel which is supposed to have a poor power supply design.
It has 3.5" HDD and USB Flash 8GB and both record badly on almost all FTA channels.
Before the USB flash, I thought that the HDD is not getting enough power from the PSU, but after installing the flash, I am still getting a poor *.ts file with pixelization.
Tried to disable the HDD mount, and record only to the USB flash, but still no joy.
If I record to a DVD recorder (DVR), the picture is excellent.
So it is the recording that is causing the problem.
But I need a *.ts file which is created only with the HDD or the USB flash.
Do I need to physically disconnect the HDD in order to neutralize the HDD completely from the system?
Would using a 2.5" HDD give me better recordings?
When I test the *.ts file with projectX, it shows a lot of errors at the begining and after getting more than 500 errors, it stops listing the errors and end up with demuxing video and audio files that has less time duration than the original.
I don't want to replace the receiver.
Any ideas would be much appreciated.:)

I am sure you will have covered these options but have you tried starting over? New flash image, format USB and HDD.
I know it is a pain because of the time involved but I have had to do this in the past.
Can I also assume you have a current CVS in flash and you don't run your image from the HDD ?

Yes, to all the above.

Just wondering if the recording with Gemini software is causing these problems. I expected recording to the USB flash would have given me a crystal clear ts file without any pixelization.
As I have used only Gemini till now, I am willing to try other images for the 7000S, if any members can recommend.
Alternatively, are there any PC applications that I can use to record the stream from the 7000S to the PC and create a ts file?
Thanks for any comments. :)

For testing, You can unmount the hard disk, This would be equivalent to disconnecting it (almost).

Run the following command in telnet,
Code:
umount /hdd

That should do it. :)

To remount the disk without having to reboot.
Code:
mount /dev/ide/host0/bus0/target0/lun0/part1 /hdd

Hello compufunk and a Happy New Year.:)
I did unmount the HDD from within the Dreambox menu. See post #1 Line 6
The problem is that the recorded ts file is having a lot of pixelization, which is apparent when I use ProjectX to demux the ts file into video and audio.

Thanks, and the same to you HB:)

Sorry, I missed that you had already tried that.

Is the pixelation obvious when viewing the recording, or does it only become apparent when you demux with projectX?

If you are thinking lack of power could be the problem, It might be worth physically disconnecting the HDD from the main board. Its worth a try :)
