I want to replace the reed switch/sensor on my Supermount motor but I'm not sure where to get one, are they specific to the motor manufacturer?

Ive seen reed switches in Maplins catalogue, but would they work?

It appears to have 'superjack+' written on it - see pics attached.

Thanks

I wouldn't expect it to matter. Physical size and the ablilty to mount it in the correct place are important. All the reed switch does is close and open every time a magnet passes it so that the positioner can count the pulses and knows where the dish is pointing. The instinctive "they're not expensive; try it" doesn't quite so attractive when 'try it' entails hanging from a ladder with one hand holding screwdriver and the other the switch. :)

I have replaced the reed switch (from RS Components cost 89p).

I was using a none screened 4 core cable (causing problems with the reed switch) for all connections, now changed to coaxial cable for the reed switch and ground and using just 2 of the 4 core for the motor.

Fingers crossed, working OK.

Thanks for posts.

I've got a similar problem. Which type did you use as a replacement sir?

It might be better to create a new Thread, but we'll leave things as they are for now :)
