Relook has released a new Twin-tuner Linux PVR receiver called 400S which is the first model on the market with Twin-tuner Linux and PVR function.

To give some information about the receiver i have a image below which explains the receiver in more detail:

The receiver also come in different clones from the original DGStation Relook 400S which is basically the same receiver, just re-badged for their markets.

Yes, looks to be a worthy competitor to the Dreambox/Triple Dragon, particularly as it has a twin tuner.

Will be interesting to have your first impressions Likvid. Is there a specification available somewhere?

Yes, a well spec'd up receiver. Not looking to replace the TD just yet, but the twin tuner will no doubt be a good selling point.

Is the fan absolutely necessary? For the HDD I suppose. The TD + HDD runs cool enough without one.

The tuner is really sensitive, much more sensitive than the TD i owned, it's in line with the Topfield TF5000MP i had.

Another reason was that the manufacturer have a very open communication with the community compared to Dreambox when it comes to improvements and working out eventual bugs.

But the most important reason i bought it was the high quality of the components all over including a real chassi compared to Dreambox cheap plastic chassi and faulty power supplies and weak tuner, the VFD display in the front can display 13 characters, no receiver i know of today can do that.

The receiver has alot going for it and i am bit surprised the community on the net has grown so fast in such a short time.

Most of the popular EMUs are available for it and part of some images.

Great thing with RonalDD image is that you can upgrade from the internet directly.

Feels very solid and the best part is the price for this kind of beast.

Ah....my bad....I am interested in hearing what you have to say about this receiver also.....I already told you about my UNIX thing so if it is good, it would be perfect.
The release on this is mid-December right? Are you going to drop the money to get it? Seriously this board should have a "Likvid Corner" for all the equipment you have been through in the last year for your review.

I have already bought it, it was released in Europe in November so it is freely available.

O.K. what does the keyboard look like for this, looking at the pictures I dont see a PS2 or a USB for getting in Terminal, built in infrared? Is it based on RedHat which seems to be popular these days?

I would have thought an ethernet connection was sufficient to 'get in it' Also USB connection to PC does that not apply either???

It does have USB.

Don't know what Linux version it runs.

Keyboard? you don't need any keyboard, you telnet in like any other Linux receiver thru the network from a computer.

Very nice presentation Likvid. Many thanks :)

Quite interesting to hear that the tuners are sensitive. What about low and high SR's ? Is anything viewable ?

No problem down to SR of 2170, i can't test lower SR's as the satellite NSS 7 at 22 West got trees in the way so the signal doesn't lock.

When it comes to high SR i don't know what you mean as the highest is DigitalAlb and that isn't any problem.

The tuner is damn good, i get most of the vertical transponders on Astra 2D already around 11.30AM which keeps a steady signal to around 5:00PM.

With the Triple Dragon it was always pixelation or no signal and only 1 hour steady signal at around 2:00PM to 3:00PM.

With the Topfield TF5000 Masterpiece i got a steady signal between 1:00PM to 5:00PM approx.

This is the best tuner i ever had and as i said to you that review is just false when it comes to the sensitivity.

You should also remember that with my old Echostar DVR-7000 i couldn't get any signal at all from these transponders.

There is a huge difference....

This is connected to my Inverto IDLP-SFLANGE LNB which made great improvement on the signal, the Inverto seems to work extremely good with my Fibo dish.

My list of receivers i tested ranke by the tuner sensitivity:

1. Relook 400s

2. Topfield TF5000 Masterpiece

3. Pace DS430N, Sky box(almost as good as Topfield above)

4. Triple Dragon 3000(big jump down compared to the above)

5. Echostar DVR-7000

6. Canal Digital Combobox(almost the same as the Echostar above)

7. Nokia 9610

8. Nokia 9780

9. Dreambox DM-7000s(worst of all, really crappy, should be placed 15)

Great Likvid, many thanks :)

Indeed, who watches streams below 2 Mbit/s like Hipika 11617V on 45E or worse 11627V with only 1.320 Mbit/s :( but it was interesting to see how the DX abilities are of this machine and if it locks easily or not on difficult conditions such as latter with 7/8.

For high SRs i recommend to test in C-Band of 40E-3675V (33483-7/8) which is a little more difficult than DigitAlb that also produces lots of problems on some receivers.

Where in your ranking would you set the following receivers roughly ?

Skystar 2
Dreambox 500S
Dreambox 7020S
Echostar AD3000IP
Echostar AD3600IP
