I hope your wife never finds out that you did that - or you'll be on the way to a Gulag PDQ!

Somwhere else there is a thread - Vipersan - on using the cooker as a flow station. Go on, you know you want to.

A dishwasher for one?, what an expensive way to wash up for one person

Never said I lived alone... :-rofl2

Some manufacturers used to claim that their product was more efficient than hand washing, though I cannot remember whether it was the energy, the water required, or the final condition of the plates/cutlery that was the basis.

The amount of water the DW uses (it's a slimline too so less than a standard sized) is far less than that of hand-washing, so, yep, saves a lot of water, and my spine, the sink's too low for me to stand infront of for more than 10 minutes...

Whats her name?

Bosch Classixx... :p

OH DEAR, OH DEAR - we are now on our 4th Slimline Classixx in around 20 yrs (3 bought, and the last of those now replaced under Warrantee after it developed an internal leak which caused 2x heater-pump units to fail!)

Good luck Mate ! - and don't bother plumbing it in now as it might well have to come out again "sometime soon":-doh

LOL!
I actually had a Bosch slimline dishwasher myself previously, plenty of capacity and worked very well.

One thing that has changed over the years with dishwashers is the fact that they use the heat from the waste water to dry the dishes, an old Zanussi we had in the 1980s had a heating element in there for drying and this worked far better.

I use a sink now and have a really good drainer (Simple Human Brand) which I could not live without, why someone hasn't invented this before baffles me.
simplehuman Compact Dish Drainer, Grey at John Lewis & Partners
Also my expensive heating system has been upgraded here, I now have a heat exchanger and so far it's costing very little for instant hot water.

Older ones were actually just rebadged Hotpoint (aka Indeshit) machines, an yeah, those were crap, had a Hotpoint slimline back in Lancashire an it was a piece of crap, so it was left behind...

No issues with mine though, was an ebay purchase (returned, slight damage to the outside which washed off easily), just needs plumbing in properly...:-rofl2

Not sure how "old" you meant by "older ones", but first 2 lasted 7-8 yrs each until the pipework got clogged up (very hard water in this area), and then the latest purchased one lasted only around 18-19 months before the internal leak occured - so that was a very recent machine.

Probably going to receive a steely stare for this, but, did you remember to fill the salt thingy up with water-softening salts? Don't need to do it round here (water's pretty soft here), but it's a good way of preventing buildup of limescale, that and an occasional run with vinegar in the machine... :)

Have always used dishwasher salt in the machines, and that seems to help (marginally?) - used to buy the bags in MAKRO, but about a year I bought a commercial "bags of bags" of it from COSTCO and now have enough for at least the next 3 years (at a far lower price than paying £3-4 a bag from the supermarkets!).:)

FWIW I also get a relatively huge cost saving by buying the 5L Rinsaid and 10kg Washing powder containers from COSTCO.

The remaining heater was far easier to remove: Slightly smaller (12 bricks rather than 16) and the insulation didn't crumble.

Ergo, front panel off, insulating sheet removed, first wall of bricks removed, elements removed, second wall of bricks removed.

Took bricks outside, refitted elements and panel, then removed the heater in one piece from the upper bracket and lower pedestals.

The top bracket plate was held by bolts into standard stud-wall fixings, so once unscrewed, I just bent back the clasp parts of the fixings and pushed them into the wall cavity. Filler applied and now awaiting SWMBO's wall-papering skills.

No unpleasant bending.
