Now that's a shame. A really nice guy, from his interviews, and upbeat even when Beagle 2 failed to land successfully.

RIP Colin

It wasn't until I followed the link and saw his photo I realised who he was. There was something very 'British' about what he tried to do with Beagle 2. RIP Colin

I hadn't heard of it either. And I suspect that, given the dates, it didn't take place.

BTW, it wasn't for Mars, it was for the Moon. And I think it would have his second shot as Beagle 2 was named after the HMS Beagle - Beagle 1 if you will.

Of course - officially Beagle 2 : Evolution. But it was supposed originally to have a shot at Mars.

The moon would have been far too easy seeing as the first one actually got there.

A real shame ..
I always saw him as an educated backyard engineer..
This doesn't do him justice of course ..but I do like and admire 'eccentricity'...and we Brits have that in spades.
So long Colin ..you _will_ be remembered.

Well its great to see Beagle-2 did in fact land safely, and rather sad the mission was lost just because a couple of solar panels didnt open.

Maybe it landed in somebody's front yard and they took offence. marvin-the-martian.jpg
