Rockford Files star James Garner dies

James Garner, film and TV star has died aged 86.

Best known for the '70s series 'The Rockford Files' and 'Maverick', and many films including 'The Great Escape', he had suffered from a stroke since 2008.
A favourite film of mine was the Western spoof 'Support Your Local Sheriff'' ( excellent comedy interplay with swivel-eyed Jack Elam), and the rarely seen on TV now, the psychological WW2 themed drama '36 Hours'.

Loved James Garner, played serious parts with humour, the Rockford files remains one of my favourite ever series. RIP James.

Also Support Your Local Gunfighter, and excellent in Marlow, Skin Game, and My Fellow Americans, but I've watched every episode of The Rockford Files at least 3 times, which is very rare for me, it was my favourite series, and still stands the test of time.

Do you remember every episode of TRF started with message on his answering machine? I used to have Garner's voice recorded from it and put on my own machine. I thought it was funny but nobody else appreciated it.

What a shame. Have been following his declining health closely over the past few years, so was mentally prepared for his demise (doesn't make it any less painful!). A great actor. RIP Maverick.

Nope, but I do know his number, 311-555-2368 (Note; that's a "Hollywood Number" and will not actually connect to a real telephone line if dialled), though that was also used by the Ghostbusters too...
