Kinell, first I had problem with my new ISP, got sorted and now this pop ups

After a while (hours OK) my router or modem gets filled up. Lost my connection

Must cut out the power for a sec or so

Then everything is OK ????????????????

Got a Dlink wifi and a Thomson (isp supported) modem
As the use PPoE the modem is installed a s a bridge.

Everything works 10/4 until the modem(or the router) gets filled up

I need to drain this setup :)

Sounds like a router PSU problem, or maybe the PC that is connected. Routers cannot get 'filled up' (unless you are on a VSAT system and - only then - sending data faster than receiving it).

Try a few things

How long does it take to hang ? (same amount of time or different each time you connect)?
How many windows do you have open on the desktop when it hangs ?
Have you got a different router you can fall back to ?

Have only on connection using a cable and that is the dreambox

Then 2 wifi computers

It is not very often this happens and not in any way regular. Could just be a fact when U are browsing the net or when U just start up and try to connect.

Have the router and the modem connected to the wall usong an on-off switch so I just close it for a second (both of them, but I think it has to do with the router)

Yes, I do have a spare router so I think I will try that, just to see what will happen:)

It´s a newer Netgear (today I use the d-link as I have wifi d-link stuff in my computers)

Still I don´t like the Thomson Modem as it has an inbuilt router, the PPoE needs a login and a username everytime U connect.

Anyway it is a strange behavior  Perhaps I need a bigger tank :)

Are You sure you don't have driver or OS problems, Because you say it happen's off an on.

My idea is driver upgrade or maybe your browser needs some paches. If your OS winsows, no matter, you'll have and just been experienced lots of stupid f***king errors.

I have found with the Netgear (WPN111 ?) software that drives the remote PC, that sending or receiving large files may break the connection on an irregular basis.

One of the reasons I don't often use it, even though I can now surf at the bottom of the garden.

By the way just connecting the wirless aerial from the roof of the house brings up some 22 other networks in the region, so the range of this baby must be further than the claimed 200m.

22 lol

How many are wide open ? 50% ?

Well, I will try my nergear just to see if there is a change

I don´t trust the Thomson modem as it is a combined modem/Router in my case setup as a bridge

So, it is the router

This PPoE system is strange, the provider want to close the connection if U are not active

Think that this could be (at least a part of it) my problem

Chenged the time from 5 mins to 15 mins If problem still are there I will change it to an hour to start with:)

This PPoE is more like a dial-up than a broadband, perhaps I can have the dreambox sending a ping every now and then, just to keep it alive ?

Testing, will report back

Do you know why your ISP is doing this? Just worried that they are billing you for time you are online (in a sort of pay as you go way, as some here are doing now) and this is a way of recording how much you are online.

Otherwise it makes little sense, they are freeing up capacity at the exchange I suppose, so if they are running their own equipment it could be they don't want everyone connected 24/7 taking up capacity. And is it PPPoE or PPPoA they close after inactivity? Closing PPPoE (Point-to-Point Protocol over Ethernet) doesn't really make sense if you are on ADSL where the connection to them would be PPPoA (Point-to-Point Protocol over Asynchronous Transfer Mode (eg ADSL))

Yes, makes me puzzled as well

But it is a price/month and it is PPoE

Think they overdo this Perhaps they need as many addys as they can get
