As on nearly all of the sat-recievers sold now, I've got a RS232 Com port, what can you do connecting it to a PC? I thought maybe you could use a "terminal emulator" to login/access to sat reciever, but before I go and buy a cable I want to know what can be done.

The reciever that I have is a unbranded one, BUT it uses the same SW as some other reciever(doesn't rember the name) and therefore it can be updated vie satellite(astra19.2) or rs232.

Hello Leonard

You will probably have to get details of the STB that yours is compatible with before anyone can give you much more information.

A number of STBs [not $ky] use this port to update channel listings and firmware.

A little less analogue, and a lot more crap.

Need more info

Are there any on screen messages stating upgrade ?

Any firmware numbers appear when you first plug the unit in ?

Is there any indication in the manual that firmware can be put into the receiver using a PC. Have you read the manual, is it in a language you understand ?

Without identifying the receiver its not really going to be an easy task

Yes the firmware is updatable via a rs232 cable but I was more interested in channel editing and stuff like that.

I got into a menu wih the headline "Unit Information" which says:

S/W Version FTA 161
H/W Version 144560-10

no more details, actually
