Not confirmed yet, but there are very good indications from several contributors over on the DS forum (at least 2 whom I know work in the industry) that one of the major DTT / Sky channels is ceasing operations at the end of September.

So will we be waving a fond farewell to

.......ABC1......
??????

Evidence cited so far includes:

- adverts cannot be booked on the channel after the end of September
- there are no programme listings for October
- a major discussion thread on the DS forum has been removed
- 2 folks who work in the industry have heard the same thing and confirmed their versions on DS.

Not one I watch, but a shame, it'll probably be replaced by another +1 channel or telly selly garbage.

I thought you said a MAJOR channel?

Never watched it in my life so won't be missed by me - and a I suspect few others.

Ive been trying to cross reference the available information, as far as I can tell, DTT is definitely being shut down. Gawd only knows what is happening on the sky platform. Viewers from the DS forum emailing abc 1 are getting these replies:

email from abc1 said:
Dear Mr xxxxx

I hope you will be pleased to hear that these were unfounded rumours regarding our position on the SKY platform,

ABC1 will not be going off the air!

Kind regards,

We will see one way or another, but connsidering the number of reports circulating saying abc1 are disapearing, abc1 need to get some damned good press releases out pronto if the channel is hanging around past the end of the month.

abc1 now confirmed closing off all transmission platforms at the end of September. TYhius is the current email being sent out:
Dear XXXXXX,

We regretfully announce that Walt Disney Television will no longer be
transmitting abc1 on any of the UK TV platforms (Freeview, cable or
satellite) after September 2007. Walt Disney Television would like to thank
its viewers for watching the channel and interacting with the website. It's
been a great few years and we appreciate your viewership.

Kind regards,

No satellite stuff for the moment (aside from a 43cm minidish that was on the house already), Samsung SyncMaster T27B550 Smart TV & Monitor, and a few computers...

Well, where do I go to watch Home Improvement? And what does my mum do to catch up on Ghost Whisperer? :(

Also, I can't watch 8 Simple rules (I like Kerry (Ami Davidson I think) ;)), or Scrubs, so this is a real kick in the teeth for people like me who have no sky or virgin sub and can only get ABC1 12 hours a day.... :(

One more nail in the coffin for my Freeview boxes... 'O'-red

Gets on yer t.... don't it? Switching to digital to allow more channels and they can't fill the channels they have now. Still, we'll be able to have Big Brother, BB+1, BB+2 etc

And with PVRs becoming cheap as chips, who needs the network to timeshift?
