Samsung has formally announced the launch of its SIR-U200I Freeview receiver for the UK market. However, it has been available for purchase in the UK for some time - notably from unbeatable.co.uk, where it currently retails for £73.96 excluding shipping. It was also on display on the Samsung stand at the recent Mediacast exhibition, where a Samsung official referred to it as already available in the UK market. (idtv.co.uk had previously been under the erroneous impression that the receiver, for which no specifications were available, was an old ITV Digital model).
Samsung says it intends the SIR-U200I to be the first of a family of digital TV products for the UK market. Further product announcements can be anticipated throughout 2003, the company says.
