I was given a Samsung FTA receiver (9400 FTA) by someone who upgraded.
After a scan of ASTRA 2 I deleted a bunch of transponders that
belonged to God and shopping, then pruned the channels down to about a
dozen that I would routinely watch (Beeb, ITV, etc.). The result is
fast, rock steady in any weather and I'm thoroughly delighted.
Now. Software updates. I look at ASTRA 2 (fixed) and the Samsung
uses OTA from ASTRA 1 Sirius and Hotbird. So, am I out of luck? Do I
care? Do software updates just keep the internal lists up to date or
do they patch software bugs, etc. If the former, I do manual scans
anyway. If the latter, I haven't found any problems.
In the background I can hear my departed father's voice saying, "Look.
If it ain't broken, don't try to fix it!" Is dad right?
