I think some type of compromise may be required?
Either downsizing the dish or upsizing the budget might achieve results.

You could hit lucky if anyone has a Fortec Star 2.4m dish they wish to get rid of, they sometimes sell at prices around your budget.

Good luck with your search.

Forget it. Add a zero onto the end of that & you might get a the start of a nice system with a dish that size.

You do realise just how much work a 2.5m dish will involve? A very deep hole in the garden, several cubic metres of concrete for the base, a massive pole to secure everything.

Are you ready to fight the planners for permission to put a dish up that size?? Because if you just go ahead & get planning permission declined the planning authority can come onto your property, remove the installation & send you the bill for the work if you refuse to remove it

What channels are you after - we may be able to find an easier solution.

If "zudrick" is looking to get C-Band reception with the dish a 2.4m Fortec Star dish can be used with reasonable success and it can be placed on a mobile pallet.
Forum member "s-band" had such a setup and the mobility of the pallet should avoid the need for planning permission as it is not classed as a fixed structure.

There might still be one or two UK based forum members with a 2.4m Fortec Star dish who no longer require it?
I recall "aceb" had decent success in C-Band with a 2.4m Fortec Star dish. Similarly, I think "s-band" had decent C-Band results with his on the mobile pallet.

All that is required for a mobile pallet is a set of castors for mobility that are rated for the weight of the entire assembly and preferably some means of securing it in place when in use.

I would have thought most of the old Fortec Star dishes have surely gone into a metal recycling skip by now considering how badly they were made and their lack of structural strength in gales. Im pretty certain none of the regular members on the forum have one nowadays, although who knows what folk have stashed away.

One forum member removed his in black bin bags after a storm a few years ago

They were not good at Ku-Band but test results from respected forum members indicated that they performed decently in C-Band.
I am trying to think of a solution to help "zudrick" source a dish at a price that may meet his budget.

It would help to know what signals "zudrick" is hoping to achieve. I am guessing at C-Band based on a large mesh dish being suitable.
If "zudrick" is looking to receive C-Band signals I hope he achieves his ambition, we could do with one or two new posters in the C-Band section of the forum.

It worked fine on X band as well

I used to keep it in the shed. Its new owner had it outside during bad weather and it tried to commit suicide but was saved and the dish face sold to live again.

Sold £46.89p, a bargain for someone looking for a C-Band dish, was it bought by a forum member, hands up !

Nicknamed "The Tin Dish" on the forum, the 2.4m Fortec Star performed reasonably well in C-Band based on observations from a few forum members, "aceb" and "s-band" spring to mind.

Most folks simply dont have the room for decent C-band dishes. Ive done a few experiments with a C-band lnb on a 1m dish but it wasnt exactly a stellar success. We are lucky to have the posters we already have

I already had a 1.2m dish installation in my back yard so putting a larger dish in it's place wouldn't be a problem, i relocated the 1.2m channel master onto the side of my house and yes i am thinking about C band from 53' East To 45' West

A 2.0m dish should get you a decent range of C-Band satellites from those located between 53.0E to 45.0W.

From personal experience with a 2.0m dish I struggled with 38.0E and 43.0W and got nothing from 45.0W in C-Band.
I did get some frequencies from 38.0E and 43.0W to lock but the frequencies on 45.0W are on the Americas beam and I could not receive them.

On a more positive note, I locked a lot of stuff from 40.5W including ESPN and other useful frequencies.
It was in excess of 200 channels locked from 40.5W.

If you check out the C-Band section of the forum for some of my past posts there are tables of scan results from satellites ranging between 57.0E and 47.5W using a 2.0m solid dish.
From a quick check of my notes, I locked C-Band signals from just over 20 satellites in that range but I think there were possibly one or two that I did not test.

Good luck in finding a dish.

You havent really said what channels you desire - "a decent range of channels" could mean anything. C-band has beams like Ku and some channels may be out of reach

I got one two months ago for a similar price, but it's offset and plastic.

You could sell it to "zudrick", he has already got a 1.2m CM, another offset plastic dish should be OK for him.

I am nowhere near Lincolnshire, but there are always bargains to be had if one cares to look around.

He may be able to make an offer on this one.

I found a concrete company => The Concrete Company near by your house. A pallet mounting dish with +2m is non stabil - I think on the problem that the dish is falling on a other incidently moving person that is near by this falling/flying dish under the weather conditions etc.
For a Metaltube you need around 90mm - 110mm steal for having a stabil fundament. A flying +2m dish is like a wapon and this is dangerouse for you in case of a accident with 3rd party. What are you think if you told us that you would lie to invest GBP100,-? Is it a unrealistic joke or you don't have any money that sounds like. First let us do the math on such a size system if you don't have the money verget it. Analoguesat said it that you can vergot it if you don't have the money. If you have a dream - let them come true but not with GBP 100,-!

Best Regards

The base that my old dish sat on was 2 metres by 2 metres and 5 inches thick with a solid 90cm pole sticking out of it so i do know it will hold a bigger dish, and yes i am working on a tight budget at the moment
